Those who look the new British mini-series "Prisoner" will feel a little deja vu. And it's not strange, as series actions are very similar to two very popular Hollywood films in the late 90's "Pleasantville" and "The Truman Show." That certainly speaks about the positive qualities of this new film.
The man woke up in the middle of the desert, does not remember how he found himself here. After some wandering, he finds himself in an unusual place, which citizens call the "Village", each resident instead of a name has a number, and our main hero is called "number six". Moreover, they begin to assure "number six" that he lives in "village" from the date of his birth, drive a bus and has a family, about which he remembers nothing. And the main thing everyone says that apart from "village" there is nothing else in the world! Trying to understand, "number six" leading the investigation, he begins to understand that all life of the "village" is artificial, not real and is controlled by a person called "number two" ... Maybe such plot is a little confusing, but very interesting!
The "Prisoner" series has two strong pluses. First, a large number of puzzles! What is this mysterious "little town"!? Another planet or a parallel world? How did our hero get there? Was he abducted or all his previous life only the fruit of his imagination? If the "number two" is a chief in their world, then who is "number one"? All this is intriguing!
You know, watching this series I've once again proved that the British were able to film deep serials. In this work, the depth does not appear immediately, but gradually, involving the small steps like go on a little light in the darkness. The further you go, the more confident is your step and the more you want to get there quickly. Unusual manner of visual feed only reinforces, strengthens the effect.
Another positive quality, duration. There are only six series. From the first minute you dipped in the thick of things, start to empathize with the heroes and with them trying to understand what is happening...
The cast is very great. Though I have only known Lennie James, and Ian McKellen, but other actors have also tried. McKellen - just super. His every remark and important and interesting. And this says it all.
It has already been said that each new series - is a new questions. There are many, but they can be merged into one: "What the hell is going on?". And I would not be surprised if in the end we will not give an answer but give a new question "What the hell was that?"
