Who will play the new Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra?
20th Century Fox acquired the rights to remake the classic musical "Guys and dolls." In 1955 the original tape was played by Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra. For the new version of the film, studio wants to invite Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Channing Tatum. Actors are quite interested in the project.
Hollywood has long been thinking to re-shoot the picture, directed by Joseph Mankiewicz. Many years ago it sought Harvey Weinstein and the creators of "Chicago" Craig Zedan and Neil Meron. In connection with the statement were heard such names, as Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and Vin Diesel, but it never got off the ground because of the reluctance of the widow of composer Frank Losser, author of music and lyrics, to give the nod to the implementation of idea. Years later, Fox still managed to achieve the desired.
Tape "Guys and dolls" was the on-screen transcription of the musical of the same name, which debuted on Broadway in 1950, have become very popular with the public and deserved recognition of "Tony" award. In turn, in the heart of the play lay the stories of Damon Runyon.
The actions of Mankiewicz movie are developed in the 1920s. In the center of the plot are the gambling organizer Nathan Detroit (Sinatra), crucial to make a bet with a ladies' man Skye Masterson (Brando). The subject of their dispute - Salvation Army sister Sarah (Jean Simmons), which is the first hero has a second charm and persuade to go to Cuba. If he loses, he will have to enterprising businessmen thousand dollars, just as Sinatra character needed for business.
The studio has not said whether the events of remake will take place in the last or this century. It is not known who will take over production of the film and its script. Both actors have already proved themselves in the music genre, and can make a strong duo in the history of updated "Guys and dolls." However, the company has just started talks with the stars.
Gordon-Levitt in this year can be seen in his directorial debut, "Don Jon," in which, by the way, is involved in a small role and Channing. In the summer 2013th Tatum will appear in the action film "White House Down".

Movie about Janis Joplin
The project about Janis Joplin, one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music, has been spoken about since 2007 in Hollywood. Singer could play Zooey Deschanel, but in 2010 adopted the title role Amy Adams. Since then the project stalled, but it is now known that to it is eyeing the director of "Treasures" and "Paperboy" Lee Daniels.
Joplin's life was tragically cut short when the singer was only 27 years old. Since then, Hollywood is trying to re-create on the screen of her way to stardom. In 1979 she played a singer Bette Midler, who indulge in alcohol and drugs, in the drama "The Rose." The basis of the plot were taken last years of life of Janis Joplin. Feed Midler turned into a star and was nominated for four awards of "Oscar".
Movie with Amy Adams was going to put Fernando Meirelles, then flirted with the project director Catherine Hardwicke, but nothing emerges. Part of the problems were related to finances, "Janis Joplin" - an independent project that is a long time to enlist the support of studios.
Now producers Robert Katz and Andrew Shugerman won support from the studio Focus Features, unit Universal. At the heart of the drama "Janis Joplin: get it while you can" is the scenario from Ron Terry, formerly of the television tape "Hendrix." The title comes from the song «Get It While You Can».
In the director's chair can get Lee Daniels. The director is in talks with producers. To date, the director is busy post-production film "Butler", and a film about Joplin plans to start production in early 2013. Everything will depend on the time available at Daniels.
It is worth noting that another film about Janis Joplin this year signed up to shoot director Sean Durkin. Nina Aryandes approved at the role of the singer - is, of course, star name, as opposed to Amy Adams, but this project has a significant trump card in Durkin has the rights to the songs of Joplin. How they are distributed between the two films and which one will be used to Janice on the screen - the time will show.
Jeremy Renner will be a son of Al Pacino
Revived, conceived last summer project of screenwriter Dan Fogelman "Imagine”. Al Pacino will play the aged rocker, star of the 70's, who is trying to set up relationship with his forty years son. This role is performed by Jeremy Renner. Also in the project is involved Julianne Moore.
Studio Warner has paid Fogelmanu $ 3 million. Initially, the role of the musician's son was playing Steve Carell, but the actor dropped out of the project due to different work schedules. In the near future for his script will be filmed comedy "Last Hangover".
In the story "Imagine" old rock musician (Al Pacino) receives an unexpected letter from the past. The author of the letter is John Lennon himself, who was the idol of the main character and wrote him more than forty years ago, but he never came nineteen destination. After reading the letter Lennon rocker decides to radically change his life. He stops drinking and starts to write new music. But most importantly, he is trying to find common ground with his son (Jeremy Renner), whom never met. He moved to a small hotel in New Jersey, and makes friends with his manager (Julianne Moore).
"Every writer has "the same project", which is impossible to pay for raising the other hand, - said Dan Fogelman. - For me it's "Imagine." If I could just pass the script into the hands of Al Pacino, for me it would be a big step. He read it and agreed to do it - it's like five steps! And now Julianne Moore and Jeremy join us - I couldn’t even dream about this!”
Al Pacino this year has played a famous musician - he starred in the television movie of David Mamet about Phil Spector on channel HBO.
Filming "Imagine" will begin in late April or early May 2013.

Venice 2012: Joker’s life
Venice Film Festival has been closed with the picture of Jean-Pierre Amery "The Man Who Laughs." Freestyle adaptation of Victor Hugo's novel is stylistically reminiscent of Tim Burton's early films, but without the black humor. The protagonist, Gwynplaine, on whose face is carved eternal smile, easily joins the pantheon of romantic renegades.
Jean-Pierre Amery was 10 years old when he saw a television three-part adaptation of Hugo's novel "The Man Who Laughs," directed by Jean Kershbron. The history of suffering boy with eternal smile will always remain in his memory. After the success of "Romantics Anonymous" director decided to fulfill his dream and take off his own version of the tragic story.
In 1928 came the first film version of the novel - a Hollywood movie with Conrad Feydton as Gwynplaine and happy ending instead of a tragic outcome. It is an image created Feydton influenced the image of the Joker in the Batman stories.
In Hugo's action takes place in England XVII century, but Amery has decided not to become attached to a particular place and time. The film opens with a dramatic night scene: from the landing departs a ship, leaving the boy on the beach, begging not to leave him. Alone, the child seeks asylum, shelter. Along the way he finds a woman, which clung to her chest girl. Gwynplaine realizes that the woman froze to death, and the girl is still alive, and takes with him. He finds refuge with Ursus (Gerard Depardieu), the seller of herbs, living in a poor tent. The girl is blind, Ursus gave her a name Deya.
Gwynplaine had never seen himself in the mirror and doesn’t know what his face looks like. His former guardians severely disfigured boy, having cut his face clown smile. Scar makes it a subject of ridicule village boys, but gradually Ursus and Gwynplaine understand that ugliness amused and attracted the audience that is willing to pay to hear an interesting story about a boy with a devilish grimace. Ursus, Gwynplaine and Deya begin to make performances and make their living.
Deya (Krista Tere) and Gwynplaine (Marc-André Grondin) get older, their relationship transformed. They have not only a sense of kinship. Arriving in the capital, where they are going to give a new performance, change their lives dramatically. Gwynplaine success comes, and with it the attention of influential duchess. When they find that he actually comes from an aristocratic family, the familiar world is crumbling. High society is much more cruel than the world of fair actors and ordinary public.
The novel "The Man Who Laughs" was written by Hugo in 1866-1869, respectively, and at one time has been cool adopted.
Amery did not meticulously reproduce all the story lines of Hugo's novel, focusing on Gwynplaine and his feelings. Marc-Andre Grod, almost always located in the frame, reproduces embarrassed young man, the first discoveries of the glory, cruelty and love. Gwynplaine - an idealist whose ugliness never angered him to the world. He grew a noble man with a beautiful and suffering soul who hides behind an endless smile.
According to Amery, Gwynplaine is much like any teenager, including to himself, "Gwynplaine thinks he's ugly. He can not imagine that can be loved and welcomed. He has both physical and social systems. I have always made films about those who are different physically. This is what I always hurt. So I would like to focus on the story of a teenager. And modern teenagers will see them selves here too".
To makeup Gwynplaine it took three hours each morning. A special mask has been created for several months.
"Mask creates a distance between the actors - said Jean-Pierre Amery of complex makeup. - Marc-Andre initially upset. He put so much emotion into his game, and his face always had that smile. Finally, he realized that he felt exactly what his character. Gwynplaine is suffering inside, but smiling on the outside. "
Amery does not hide that he was inspired by Burton's films and characters. Edward Scissorhands with his naive soul was one of those who influenced Gwynplaine by Amery. "Sleepy Hollow" and "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" also played a role in how bleak and intense theatrical director has made the world of "The Man Who Laughs." The space is filled with fog, fire, velvet, mirrors and reflections, as well as the beautiful music of Czech composer Stephen Much.
Symphonic music sounding in the film, was written under the influence of the works of Ligeti, Shostakovich and Mahler.
Tragic end the director compares to the opera. "It is a bit like the last act in the great operas. All the main characters die. In "La Traviata", she dies. In "La Boheme", she dies. Madame Butterfly dies. I really wanted that was like in the opera"- shared his vision Amery.
Venice 2012: Après mai
French director Olivier Assayas has brought to Venice nostalgic picture of the times of his youth. In the movie "Something in the Air" (Après mai) which thematically continues his own film "Cold Water", some teenagers are trying to find themselves in a chaotic world, parallel to falling in love and taking part in the protest movement.
In the original film Assayas called Apres Mai, meaning "After May." This refers, in May 1968, when the student riots exploded France. Pupils whose youth came at the beginning of the seventies, could not follow the example of elders. They also wanted to participate in the revolution, they fearlessly took to the streets against armed with sticks, batons and tear gas police. It was the scene of cruel crackdown February 9, 1971 and started painting of Assayas.
Central characters in "Something in the Air," have the same names, as in "Cold Water" - Gilles and Christine.
It seems that director was the most important thing to convey the atmosphere of his own adolescence: leftist movements, underground organizations, parties with hippie, craze contemporary art, strange love. Assayas filled the film space by the melodies that are heard at school - it's Syd Barrett, Dr. Strangely Strange, Incredible String Band, Captain Beefheart, Nick Drake.
"Something in the air" is made up of pieces, like a patchwork quilt. Unified picture of history as such is not enough, the viewer only watches maturation characters and events that this maturation somehow contribute. "Youth in the 2010s lived in this shapeless. They exist outside of history "- said Olivier Assayas.
The characters in his movie, by contrast, live for today and remember the events of the recent past, they are eager to change history. Their culture - a counterculture. According to the director, working with the young actors, he noticed how much change in the attitude of young people to the world over the past few decades.
"The issues that were previously out of focus, such as the history of the labor movement, the different approaches to the structure of the left political wing, they seem to be quite strange - said Assayas. - By the way, they also wonder why the idea of cultural policy. Their only real ideals - the clothes and the music. "
