What’s new in U.S. cinemas?
In New Year's Eve in limited U.S. theaters start copyrights movie, most of the applicants - for the prestigious awards. At this time, American audiences will be pleased by several new works of recognized masters and one titled picture from less well-known director. Among the first is Briton Mike Leigh ("Another Year"), Portuguese Manoel de Oliveira ("O Estranho Caso de Angélica"), the Australian Peter Weir ("The Way Back") and Mexican Alejandro González Iñárritu ("Biutiful") and "Blue Valentine" by Derek Cianfrance.
"Blue Valentine"
History of relations between a married couple consisting of Dean and Cindy. Their married life is undergoing a variety of stages - from euphoria to total unbearable despair.
Director Derek Cianfrance once has made a successful debut with the tape "Brother Tied", warmly accepted in the main show of American independent cinema Sundance. In order to gather strength for the next picture, the director took more than ten years, for whom Derek was engaged in work on television, creating a documentary portrait of hip-hop star (in particular, Run DMC) and sports. The script for "Blue Valentine" originally was written by Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams, according to critics, impeccably embodied their assigned images. In addition, the pattern (by the way, equipped with a soundtrack of Grizzley Bear) constantly appears in the nominees of prestigious prizes (its luck in this endeavor in the summer has been predicted by producer Harvey Weinstein, whose The Weinstein Company has produced the film), so now we can recognize the success of Cianfrance, which has finally taken place on a larger scale.
"Biutiful"
A known person in the criminal underworld of Barcelona Uksbal learns that his body is being eaten with a deadly disease, sharply limited remaining lifetime. Now he is forced to hastily finish initiated deals, to instruct children and his ex-wife, but at the same time to reconcile with the past.
After completing his "trilogy of death" (which includes commercially successful films like "Amores Perros", "21 Grams" and "Babel"), Alejandro González Iñárritu for making the film "Biutiful" (made on the same topic, apparently, can be considered its appendage to the previous three tapes) refused to cooperate with their permanent screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga. The latter is now considered the chief adept of the genre of short stories where the plot appears as a collection of intertwined vignettes - this way he built and his directorial debut "The Burning Plain," difficult to distinguish from the work of the same Iñárritu for which ever wrote the lyrics.
In "Biutiful" by Alejandro González enough that does not enjoy a favorite narrative techniques, and for the first time in many years resorted exclusively to Spanish language and Spanish actor, albeit a very popular in Hollywood - Javier Bardem, whose game has been highly appreciated by the Cannes jury. Critics have reacted to the tape rather complacent, but not as enthusiastically as for previous works of Mexican director.
Independent Spirit Awards
Organizers of one of the largest USA premium, which specializes in independent film, voiced a list of nominees. Most chance to get the statuette of Independent Spirit Awards at the tape "Winter bone", which has already become triumphant of the last Sundance, where the picture has won the main prize in seven nominations.
