“Scream 4″ review
By the early 90's the genre, of so-called youth horrors on "shootout" has falter: the endless sequels to "Halloween" and "Friday 13" because of their abhorrent quality is sinking deeper into the genre of dull movies. The film "Scream" from one of the pioneers of the genre Wes Craven was a real breath of fresh air.
He delicately ridiculed all stamps of this kind of films, was just filled with irony, and at the same time, do not forget to thoroughly scare the viewer. "Scream 4", in fact, does the same thing, only this time, taken as a basis of modern realities of horror.
One of the few survivors of the massacre in the town of Woodsboro, Sidney Prescott, a few years later wrote a book about herself, slowly healing the wounds of the past. It would seem that here it is - a welcome calm life without any stress and murder. Live and enjoy! But there it was. Masked ghost mysterious maniac returned to Woodsboro to shed the blood of another victim. Sinister phone calls, bloody knife, running up the stairs and shocking ending - all just like at old times.
The only thing, that can cause some confusion for longtime fans of the series, so it is too sharp tilt toward comedy. In principle, the "Scream" has always been a horror with a comedic element, but there sometimes seems that creators have forgotten that they are filming horror, not a comedy. And, suddenly, it all depends on the viewer: if he had come to the cinema only in order to tickle his nerves, likely, he will be disappointed. Those who do not mind a good laugh and laugh correctly perceive the creators of their own creation, do not worry - you have gotten to where you should.
But, let’s back to the pleasant. The cast of the earlier films has fully migrated here and it’s great. David Arquette, Courtney Cox and Neve Campbell are good as ever. Brand new actors also did not hit the face in the dirt and looked no worse than their older partners. By the aforementioned trio have joined quite popular on television or in low-budget movie Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere and Rory Culkin.
What can we say in the end? Wes Craven definitely keeps trademark. "Scream 4" is much better then very weak third part and it is kept at the level of the first two. Very cleverly picked up the current trends of the horror genre!
Todd Phillips interview
Director of "The Hangover" and its sequel "Hangover Part II" Todd Phillips, during an exhibition in CinemaCon has given an interview to resource ComingSoon, in which he compared two films.
- The speed with which you create your films is just surprising: after the first "Hangover" you immediately filmed "Due Date" and after it - the second part of "Hangover".
That's it. The thing is that I have no personal life. Maybe it was still in the first "Hangover". Since then I have not had a single weekend. I'm on the verge of physical exhaustion (laugh). It's crazy. That's because our films, as opposed to TV series, are not shot in the same room.
- Trailer to the new movie is very stylish. Has it be done by the same person as before, for your movies?
Oh, yeah. It's the same guy. My team is virtually unaltered. We all make our movies, and I really like the family atmosphere at work. This is the best in the process.
- That was great in the first "Hangover" is that you wrote a scenario to it for your friends, with their images in your head. Talking with Ed and Bradley a couple months ago, we wondered whether there was a different atmosphere on the set during the first and second part of the movie, and whether it was harder to shoot in.
It was wonderful. I do not know what they told you, but for me the first day of filming of the second part was as though we did not stop shooting the first part. Of course, we with Zach just finished a "Due Date" and, although it was six months ago, all at once got used to their roles, and there was no nervousness, which is certainly present in the beginning, when you're thinking: "Where did this character come from? What should I do?" All were in 100% aware of what and how they play, and I knew exactly what the film I was doing. The operator also had no problems. In short, everything was easy. Difficulties related solely our stay in Bangkok, apart from the usual us protection. Culture cinematography is quite different, you know? Language staff, it was not easy, everything else was great, because we all knew our roles by heart.
- When you find the script for the first movie, you adapted it to your friends. Scenario for the second film, most likely, you have already written by yourself. Say, did you interest in any of the actors, where would they like to go?
I gave them ideas when we met, because as friends we always communicate. Even during the filming of "Due Date" and asked Zach: "What do you think, Alan?" And he either approved my sketches or not. Of course, the guys have allowed me to remove the super-cool movie. Definitely - simply because I trust them and believe that the film belongs to them as much as me - I drew them into the discussion at the preparatory stage. With Ed we all the time have been chatting on e-mails.
- We return to the "Hangover". One thing is clear in the trailer for the movie you do not need to show too many scenes from the film, because audience wants to enjoy the intrigue to the fullest. For this reason, I think the teaser was done as it should.
I agree with you.
- Generally, you may not show anything, but simply say: "The guys back."
I like it. I cut some footage for the teaser, where guys just go and still look as if saying: "Hey, you're either with us or not. We do not care. Come and get lost. Decide, you motherfucker!"
Ben Stiller in “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”
The desire of the FOX studio to re-shoot the movie of 1947 "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" is close to fruition. Ben Stiller has read a script of Scott Conrad and wanted to star in the title role. Previously, to the project was attributed Gore Verbinski, but today the studio is looking for a new director.
The producer will have to shoot an action, staying within PG-13 rating. The protagonist of the original film, poor editor of the publishing house, endures insults from all around, starting with the domineering mother and ending with the bride and the chief. To somehow brighten his existence, he dreams of another life, filled with all sorts of adventures, ideas which he draws from the tabloid books.
Remake has an old story. Since 1994 producer Samuel Goldwyn Jr., whose father produced the original movie, has tried to run the film in production. At different stages of the film showed an interest in a variety of actors. Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen - they all flirted with the project, but eventually in the starring will be Ben Stiller.
Since April 25, Ben Stiller will play on Broadway in the play "House of Blue Leaves", which is produced by Scott Rudin. The hero of the play - zoo worker Artie Shaughnessy dreams of writing songs. It is interesting that Ben Stiller debuted on Broadway in the same production, but in 1986, and played the son of Shaughnessy.
At the end of this year, Ben will be seen in the comedy thriller "Robbery of skyscraper".
Ryan Reynolds wants to end with superheroes
At the last convention of WonderCon in San Francisco, Ryan Reynolds, presenting excerpts from "Green Lantern" and noted that after the shooting in "Deadpool" will no longer add to his resume the role of superheroes.
"I think I have exhausted my limit," - said the actor. Responding to the sensitive question, whom from superheroes he likes more - Green Lantern or Deadpool, Reynolds tried to dodge: "I like Green Lantern more because he is like nothing else captures your imagination. I do not want to talk about "Deadpool" - there is still much not known. But if we would get to shoot this film, we will do everything bests".
Speaking of chatty mercenaries. Producer Lauren Shuler Donner, in his conversation with the magazine "Empire" has informed that "Deadpool" will differ from the version of the character, which can be seen in "Wolverine." "This is a complete reboot, - says producer. -The movie will be insane, but definitely a comedy. The script will be in rating R, it is very arrogant and cruel". Donner said that Ryan Reynolds is largely involved in the project, and even working on the script.
Meanwhile, rumors about the possible involvement of David Slade's directorial project have not been confirmed. Who exactly will shoot "Deadpool" is still not known. According to rumors, the studio is looking for a comedy director.
But back to the other superhero played by Reynolds. Producer of "Green Lantern" Donald De Line says the film is still being in process. "We have to finish the half-frames with special effects - said De Line. - Because we work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week". In total, the "lantern" has 1500 shots (digital scene) with computer special effects - it's quite a lot, but not a limit for the blockbuster.
A film by Martin Campbell will be released in theaters in June 16. The new trailer will be available in late April, but the material from WonderCon you can see right now.

James Franco and his movie about cinema impact on people
Closing his twitter-account, James Franco is going to do serious business. He acquired the film rights to the novel "Zeroville" by writer Steve Erickson. Action develops in 1969, and on the bald skull of the main character flaunts a tattoo of Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift in "A Place in the Sun".
Steve Erickson - film critic and film historian, has written for many magazines, including "The New York Times Magazine", "Esquire" and "Rolling Stone".
"Nulevill", his eighth book, was published relatively recently, in 2007, and explores the impact that cinema has on the audience, deifying movies.
24-year-old student Ike Jerome study on architect, but also loves movies. From the side Ike seems an autistic - is the result of a difficult childhood and the actions of aggressive father, a religious fanatic. A young man arrives in Hollywood and makes an impression thanks to his tattoo.
Eventually he began working a dresser, and then moved deeper into the film industry, becoming an editor. His journey into the world of cinema ultimately ends with a tragedy.
Among the novel's heroes - Robert De Niro, Brian De Palma, and even the ghost of the Montgomery Clift.
Critics were very favorable to the novel of Erickson. "Zeroville" entered the lists of best books of the year, publications such as "Newsweek", "Washington Post BookWorld" and "Los Angeles Times Book Review".
Franco himself has no plans to shoot in the movie, so he will be just behind the camera. The work on the movie will start in early next year. It is worth noting that this is not the only book that James is going to show on the big screen. In January this year the actor observed the novel by William Faulkner's "As I Lay Dying" and "Bloody Meridian" by Cormac McCarthy.
This summer, James Franco will start filming in the tale of Sam Raimi's "Oz: The Great and Powerful", but this year the actor can be seen in the film "Rise of the Apes" and the comedy "Your Highness".
James Marsden interview
James Marsden, who played together with the Easter Bunny (Russell Brand) in the comedy "Hop" in an interview with Collider resource, said that the main idea of the film is to follow your dream and look for the sense of life, even if you will have to become an Easter Bunny.
- Was it hard to "play" in conjunction with the animated character?
Never before I have had to shoot with such a great care. I knew not only my sentences by heart, but also all the phrases of Russell, and in addition to his location in the scene remembered all the jumping and moving of I.Bi. Since no rabbit during the shooting and was not close, I had to recite my lines, to wait for the replica of does not exist rabbit, which I also learned, and look at this quite naturally.
- You spent some time with Russell Brand, watching as he voiced rabbit I.Bi. Did this somehow help you then?
It was very helpful. I asked Tim Hill to give me a session with Russell. I thought: Well, I'm close to Russell Brand, a genius comedic improvisation. If there is a kind of witty banter, for him, in any case it will end well, because I immediately begin to blunt and forget all my lines, and he will have fun.
Basically, I wanted to work with him in a pair, because for me this film is closely related to the dynamics and understanding which has arisen between our heroes. I was interested to see what would happen if he really played the Easter Bunny, how he would behave. Therefore, it was great that we have with Russell sat in one room for two days and watched each other. I struggled to remember all of his tone and manner of speech, so that later, when he will not be there, to ease my job.
- Have your kids already seen the movie or at least present on the set?
They haven’t seen a movie yet, but they were present at the set while my shooting. My kids were delighted with the free candies, so it was not like them to think: "Wow, the film is shooting here". They strolled around the tables with inventory and pulled out candies from huge cans.
They are great, and, in general, I decided to play in this film just for them.
- What is the main idea of the "Hop" in your opinion?
When I think about my character, that for him the main idea is to follow his dream and look for sense of life. It's very sad that he is already 30 years old, and he's still at home and without a job. But as a child he had a chance to see Easter Bunny, and before him opened his doors in a magical world in which most of children couldn’t come in. Fred grew up in an ordinary world in which there is not a lot of magic, but he still remembered that Rabbit. And that's why he did not want to engage in adult life that he was not interested in, he was waiting for a miracle. And so it was that to be the Easter Bunny - is his mission, and it is very strange.
But I think you still need to follow your dreams and strive to seek your destiny.
HBO news: two new projects and casting
HBO acquired a right to adapt the book "Angler: The Cheney Vice Presidency" by Pulitzer Prize winner Barton Hellmann. According to that book, the channel plans to shoot the miniseries, which tells about Dick Cheney (full name - Richard Bruce Cheney), starting with his work in the administration of President Richard M. Nixon (1969-74), appointment Minister of Defense during the George HW Bush (1989-93) and ending with the two vice-presidential terms (2001-09). Rick Cleveland (Six Feet Under) will write the script. HBO has been actively engaged in political projects - the channel also shoots the film "Game Change" about the electoral campaign of John McCain's (Ed Harris) in 2008. Julianne Moore will play a former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
One more project, which has fallen into the development on HBO - drama "Upstate", the script to which has been written by Brett Leonard and Bob Glaudini. The story will focus on the recently laid-off workers Roy Perkins, who moved with his family in rural America, and finds work at a private prison. While Roy's family begins to prosper in this small town, he faced with danger, both inside and outside of prison walls.
Jeff Daniels is in talks on participation in a drama pilot from Aaron Sorkin. Actor can play a major role - Will McCallister, a leading of a news program on cable channel; he is talented and intelligent, but for his colleagues and subordinates he is as a pain in the ass.
HBO also officially ordered a pilot to the comedy "Spring / Fall" with Tea Leoni in the starring role.
Bradley Cooper interview
Bradley Cooper, known for his work in the comedy "The Hangover" and "A-Team", this time starring in the thriller "Fields of darkness". Here is an interview with the actor.
- About his first starring role.
"I read the script and fell in love with it. Like a possessed man, I did everything to get the role."
- What would he do if he took a pill giving him superhuman abilities?
"First and foremost, I would have learned as much as possible languages, and then learned to play on various musical instruments. It would be cool to hang out with all these musicians and be able to communicate with people in some parts of the world. But I still remained an actor and director. I would come face to face with my own fear, because more than anything else I want to make movies. I just have not tried to do this yet."
- About the work with Robert De Niro.
"Let’s talk about icing on the cake. My past is connected with De Niro, but he does not know about this. It is because of him I became an actor. It is interesting to speculate about this now. I remember, I was in a high school and mentally consulted with him on various issues, spent holidays with him..."
- Was De Niro upset, when he was not invited to shoot in cameo for "The Hangover Part II"?
"Yes, he was upset (laughs). We have not been talking for a few weeks. In fact, he arrived in Bangkok, when we were filming. It was very uncomfortable: "Bob, I'm sorry, no."
- How did you cope with the collapsed on you popularity after "The Hangover"?
"By that time I was 34 years old, and I was smart enough to understand that if I’ll work only in this line, I will have serious problems. If it had happened when I was 23, then, yes, the problems would have arisen. In the glory there is no power. All you need to do is work. I always knew it. I want to work better, meet on the stage with great actors and directors. Everything else - again".
- You love your fans, but why don’t you want to communicate with them in Twitter?
"I have no desire to share details of my personal life with those who like the images that I create in a movie. Why should I disappoint people? It's a horror, to know what actors do in ordinary life - the more information fans have about their favorite actor the harder they will disengage and enjoy his game during the movie. So, I don’t even imagine, that I would talk about myself in Twitter, because I'm sure that after that viewers will be hard to believe that I’m an Eddie Morra of "Areas of darkness."
