Interview with Andrew Garfield
In an interview with LA Times lead actor in a sci-fi movie "The New Spider-Man" Andrew Garfield spoke about the life of spiders, about fame and his partner on screen, Emma Stone.
- Preparing for the role, do you think that you should avoid any stereotyping when you put together an image of Peter Parker and Spider-Man?
I had to make so many that I have not had time to think about what I need something to avoid. I did not consider the task set before me, from this point of view. I wanted Peter Parker had fun. I would like to make it clear that he can not only try to save the world but the fun never ends, that he enjoys life even after he was responsible for saving the city. Inspired by the work of many filmmakers in recent years, I really wanted to use physical force to do something natural. Physical data of Spider-Man - that's what I was obsessed and admired.
- If you look back and remember the very first comic book, it becomes clear that the image of Spider-Man has always been synonymous with grace ...
Yeah, right. What would have happened if we had a spider DNA, representing the percentage of our blood? So I decided to study spiders, their movements, how they act, and tried to use the data I obtained in the maximum. The way, Peter moves it should be clear that he is half boy, half - a spider, and the matter is not in a suit. The mutation affects the communication and interaction with people. Spider is incredibly sensitive, and his skin is sensitive to everything, and it's very important detail. Imagine for a moment that all of your skin would be as fragile as a spider: the slightest gust of wind would be like passing around tornado. It was necessary to pay attention to the number of hands and feet: you would always rush somewhere. We had to figure out how to adapt to this Peter, and simultaneously to the movement in space - because the spider moves up, down, side to side, all around. He does not move linearly, and, taking into account this feature it must be understood that he could be here, and in a split second - in a totally different place. The immobility of the spider and its lightness also caught my attention.
- Very soon you will see yourself as a toy figurine, in the form of images on billboards, on plates, on magazine covers, in short, everywhere. Around the world people will not identify you as an actor, Andrew Garfield, but a comic book hero like - Spider-Man. How do you prepare for this part of the job?
I do not like thinking about it. It scares me. I really do not want any glory. I was glad that I was given the opportunity to play a role, which I had dreamed from my 2 years. Ability to become a more prominent actor or just a more well-known person in the world was the only thing that kept me from a final agreement, and which I questioned. Do I want this? I pondered this issue for months. I knew that my life will have changes. I'm going to do the best to remain part of the world. I do not want to lose the opportunity to be an ordinary man, meet people, and make new friends. I do not want, getting acquainted with me, people thought of me biased. I love to be myself and do not want to be someone else. Of course, I realize that much will change, but I will do my best to stay simple guy, who makes his living. I really accepted this role and without a moment's regret about my decision.
- Until today, the franchise, "Spiderman" has been consisted of three films, is one of the projects, which together with the heroic theme of a love theme - the romance between Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. "The new Spider-Man" - a new star, new director and ... no Mary Jane. However, the flirt is still a central theme in the movie: this time, Peter Parker is in love with Gwen Stacy, the heroine of Emma Stone. What can you tell us about working with Emma?
She's just super. Emma is very talented, I knew that. But I had no idea how she will be good, funny, sweet and generous as a human. She - the girl who brought cupcakes for the whole team, but does not say that baked them herself. She really wanted to get into the skin of her character and do something real. She is playful, cheerful, likes to fool around, and she always helped me to relate everything easier. It is very important to me because I am quite serious in life, and the seriousness is getting me nerves. So Emma was a real godsend.
Interview with Leo DiCaprio
The film's director of "J. Edgar" Clint Eastwood, screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, and performer starring Jay Edgar Hoover Leonardo DiCaprio in a brief interview talked about their relationship to the head of the FBI.
J. Edgar Hoover - the man, which had forced to live in fear not only ordinary Americans, but also those who ruled the country. He abused his power by manipulating the major officials and intimidates the leaders of civil rights.
Dustin Lance Black: "I wanted to get the answer to "why". Hoover did a lot of good for the country, but why at the same time her actions sometimes have been destructive? I think the reason lies in his attempt to fill the void in the absence of love, the universal admiration. After all, he instilled at an early age that he should never show the love that feels".
Clint Eastwood: "I grew up with Hoover in the 30s-40s, when he was an FBI agent. He was always respected, always a cop from the top. Naturally, the FBI is a kind of organization to which we all stand in awe of. When we're talking with FBI agents who worked with Hoover, each of them has their own opinion about him. A lot of people loved him, and they liked working with him. "
"This guy started Bureau of Investigation, which later became a federal, and directed it for 48 years under eight presidents. Of course, nobody could fire him because Hoover had incriminating evidence on each."
"He knew that he could dig up any information he needs on his former life of his opponents, but what concerned exactly him, he trusted only Helen and Clyde Tolson Gandy."
"Now, about a possible homosexual relationship between Hoover and Tolson. Some may interpret their relationship in this way. Others may find them inseparable friends. Maybe it's platonic love story. I do not know. But, as Lance stated this point in the script, very interesting. It is described perfectly. There are no obvious conclusions. "
Leonardo DiCaprio: "They were ordinary guys who went up and asked questions. Just as it is done by journalists trying to dig up a story and then present it to the local police, in whose hands is concentrated the whole power. As soon as our country was divided into small city-state with its jurisdiction, there comes a person who creates the federal police, being a member of which, you are responsible for the country for your actions and deeds. "
"Hoover did not just rely on eyewitness accounts, which can often be misleading and can lead you in the wrong direction. It employs forensic medicine. Enhanced sentencing attraction to court and use of evidence - all this is the result of the work that had Jay Edgar Hoover, conceiving FBI".
"I think he's always been an outsider. And I think our story is about this, about how he lost touch with reality to put it mildly. Hoover was obsessed with obsessions, suffered bouts of paranoia. "
“Wolverine” sequel shooting is transferred to the next year
A film about one of the most popular members of the team "X-Men" can’t be defined with the shooting schedule. The work on "Wolverine," presumably, has to begin this fall, but the Fox clarified that was never officially announced the date of starting the project.
The sequel to the film "X-Men: Origins. Wolverine" of Christopher McQuarrie for the first scenario was going to shoot Darren Aronofsky. But after the success of the drama "Black Swan" director was able to freely dispose over his plans, so that "Wolverine" was transferred to James Mangold.
According to the scenario, the film will be developed in Japan. However, as reported by insiders of Fox, because of weather conditions in the Land of the Rising Sun is now difficult to find a suitable location for filming. Rumor has it that "Wolverine" will be shot in Canada, but did not specify whether Canada will play a role of Japan, or the script will be changed.
They say also that one of the reasons for the shooting transfer was filming schedule of Hugh Jackman. The actor must first play in the musical "Les Miserables", which makes the Oscar-winning drama director the "King’s speech" Tom Hooper. In "Les Miserables" Jackman will play with Russell Crowe, which is approved as Inspector Javert.
Among the contenders for the major female roles - Hayden Panettiere, Miranda Cosgrove, Lucy Hale and Emma Watson. Most likely, the "Wolverine" will be held despite of the rain or shine, but the release, which was scheduled for the estimations for 2012, will be transferred to the 2013th.
Interview with Jason Momoa
Here is a brief interview with a future superstar Jason Momoa.
- The role in "Conan" was very important for you, because it's your first feature film, and you have signed up for two more sequels to it. Are you worried about the film and that it will not fail at the box office?
Sure, this is my first movie, and I am interested in its success. But I have the feeling that everything will be great. I'm not afraid that it will fail and be booed. I think one of the reasons I agreed to appear in "Conan" is that after I became a Hal Drogo (the "Game of Thrones") and played that role, I realized that I can to play Conan, and that those who are engaged in the film, they know what they do. I knew that they would make a wonderful world that is based on the vision of director Marcus Nispela. In those stories that I read. I knew that inside me there is potential and I am able to present it to the world. I have no even doubts on this occasion.
- Are not you afraid that get stuck in the role of a warrior forever?
Not really, because I write scripts. I just wrote the screenplay for my second film and have received funding for it. I'm going to be director, and I want personally to shoot what I see. I know all this from inside the kitchen ... Hal Drogo was terrific, but I would not want to be anyone other than Conan. I do not want to be Superman or Batman. Conan - it's just mine, and no, I'm afraid that get stuck in that role. And if they get stuck - well, let them, I like it ... I'm a big kid, and I am high from it all. On the other hand, I want to shoot my films and I want to show my skills in other areas. So at the first we can shoot big-budget movies and then switch to trifle with a budget of 5 million, and create my own art with friends. The world hasn’t seen anything like this, but soon it will get a weak punch in the stomach.
- A lot of girls would want to know - Are you married?
Sure!
- Happily?
Yes, happily, I have two children.
- Is there any actors who you really respect, who admire?
Yes, of course. Johnny Depp is just super. Marlon Brando. Gary Oldman is one of my favorite actors. Daniel Day Lewis - just a father. Benicio Del Toro. Jeffrey Wright and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
- What scares you?
(deep breath) The Future. Career, and death. I think that we always need something a little wary. The only way to live.
- Humility?
Absolutely! It teaches a sober outlook on life.
Justin Lin has founded his own movie company
Director of three recent films franchise "Fast and the Furious" Justin Lin provided a job for the next two years. His company is located at Barnstorm Pictures Universal Studios, and will develop at least eight projects, including "Fast and the Furious 6" and the new "Terminator".
Justin Lin, best known for the film "Better luck tomorrow" got in the competitive film festival "Sundance." Before into the life of director has plunged "Tokyo Drift", he managed to put the drama "Annapolis" with James Franco. We also note, that Lin has put three episodes of one of the most successful American comedy series of the last time - the "Community".
The nearest future plans of director include five films.
First of all, this adventure spy thriller "Leading Man". The film has long been in development at the studio Universal. At the heart of comic book publisher Oni Press on a global movie star who uses his work and the ability to constantly move around the world as a spy.
The second project will be an unnamed action movie about the 442nd army, which consisted of Japanese American descent who, after World War II became the most titled in the history of the U.S. Army.
Justin Robert Glikert assistant who worked with him during the filming of "Fast and the Furious 5" will debut in directing with a fantastic picture, which is not known.
The fourth film, which will be shot by Justin Lin Company - is the "Fast and the Furious 6." Recall that Universal wants to shift the focus from the beautiful and fast wheelbarrows on the history of the robberies. The release of the sixth franchise is scheduled for May 24, 2013.
The director is assigned to the western "Brigands of Rattleborge", whose script at one time headed the famous "Black List" of best scenarios, as well as the psychological drama "We Disappear" by Scott Helm novel.
In parallel, Justin Lin is developing a film adaptation of Samurai manga "Lone Wolf and pup." Interestingly, this material formed the basis of the graphic novel "Road to Perdition," which was filmed by Sam Mendes of the same name.
Finally, Lin is attached to one fifth of the franchise "The Terminator". What major studio takes up the picture is not yet known.
The director says that is not going to dwell exclusively on big-budget films. The jurisdiction of the Universal is the studio Focus Features, charge more modest projects. Given that Lin began his career with low-budget movies, it would be easy for him to work on the Focus.
Lin has been repeatedly pointed out that Universal had straightened a great relationship.
They gave me the opportunity to prove myself - says Justin. - I came to them with the festival "Sundance", and they handed me a "Fast and the Furious." I have a feeling that I grew up at this studio. "
Interview with Sam Worthington
At a press conference marking the world release of political thriller "The Debt" Sam Worthington talked about a sequel to "Clash of the Titans" - "Clash of the Titans' 2", and discussed his participation in the process of filmmaking and how it affected on his choice of projects. Excerpts from an interview with actor:
- Is it difficult to balance between participation in independent films and blockbusters?
"I think I was very fortunate from the beginning. If you get into such a big project like" Avatar ", before you, is automatically opened door to a great movie. Long ago, I shared with a friend:" There is a cool script for an independent film and classy script for a blockbuster, but in the first scenario, I have more chances to show myself as an actor." And then my friend asked:" And which of those movies you'd go to see at the cinema? I said that I'll go to blockbuster. "Now, I did choose - I would go to the cinema on "The Debt". Thus, it turned that I have no any balances. In front of me did not face a dilemma: "I will shoot in blockbuster for all of them, and then - in a film with a modest budget for myself." When you hang out with Christian Bale, there is a feeling that he decides: "One for them, one for myself," he thinks: "For myself - what story I want to tell?" That's how he chooses "Terminator" or "Fighter".
- After such weighty "Texas killing fields" must have been difficult to return to the "Clash of the Titans 2"?
"We need to make "Clash of the Titans 2" rather heavy. First film - this is a video game. A second will be more serious. You take into account all the shortcomings of previous work, in order not misled again and look for a serious script for a blockbuster. This is the landscape in the industry, business and great movie.
In the blockbuster it is very hard to work, because this is a huge production, and you are is a simple cog in a big machine. So you're trying to bring to the kind of individuality and independence that you possess in low-budget projects, and to prove to the whole number of people who you are. That's all I wanted to say on this case".
- You need to do it on stage, writing the script or in working through the image of your character during filming?
"You're doing it all the way from start to finish. You work in a studio, you think of a hero, reading the script, you discuss it with everyone and get an idea of what the character is supposed to be at the end. And the most difficult in blockbusters, because everything happens very quickly. You give five months before release date. And if you want to see blockbuster an excellent, and your character looks well, you will have to work hard. Blockbusters - not an easy thing, as you might think. "
- You probably have in mind the seriousness and magnitude of material similar to that which we see in the "Fields"?
"We need to bring this weight. It is necessary to bring the weight of "Tron", you know what I mean? You should try. And sometimes it's very difficult because the battle is not for the life but for the death."
Unbelievable budged of the “Lone Ranger”
Last week, the Disney studio has shocked cinema world by its decision to stop work on the project "Lone Ranger" of Gore Verbinski, Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer. However, Western could still come back to life, if the director finds a way to reduce the bloated budget. But why the film budged is 250 million dollars? The answer to this question is finally known.
In the original script of Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio were present supernatural wolves, coyotes and legion-eating Wendigo spirit. Then the script has changed Justin Hayes, and the great number of these expensive computer creatures vanished from the pages of "Lone Ranger".
However, according to insiders, the film has only three scenes, which are very expensive. One of them involves a train wreck, and the staff was so enormous, that would be a record for similar scenes in the movie. These scenes have to be revised in order to save the project. But on the other hand, what's the point in producing a blockbuster without vivid scenes?
Gore Verbinski has a reputation, piercing big budgets for his projects. While working on the third "Pirates" Gore regularly clashed with Bruce Hendricks, who headed the production department of Disney. As a result, budget of the film exceeds 300 million, so take the fourth part called Rob Marshall.
In the case of the "Lone Rider" Verbinski also be able to fly from the director's chair, if it curbs his appetite. According to The Hollywood Reporter, now only depend on it will the "Ranger" jump on a lighter budget. They say that the director has already reduced the figure to 242 million but he need to get about 215, and even lesser amounts. As a result, Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer refused from the part of the fee, which totaled $ 10 million.
But it seems the filmmakers are not inclined to cut the budged for further. For the studio it is a problem: in order to properly promote movie with $ 250 million in production, you need to spend at least 150-200 million on its advertising. So, to pay off, the film will need to earn at least 800 million. For original paintings, whose subject is not known abroad, and even for a Western, "The Lone Ranger" is a very risky undertaking. And even the name of Johnny Depp cannot give anything.
It is necessary to recall the recent words of Representative of Walt Disney Animation Studios Andy Hendrickson: "Well, "Alice in Wonderland" had a bad story, but there were stunning special effects, which attracted the audience." Many were shocked by these words, but not should be considered studio bosses idiots - they know what they produce and for what purpose. The viewer expects blockbuster visual feast, and the studios are spending huge money on a visual component to the detriment of the scenario.
Will Depp stay in "Ranger" if the studio dismisses Verbinski? We may recall that the actor has worked fine with Marshall in the next series of adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow. Yes, and to the "Lone Ranger" Johnny was attached much sooner than Gore.
In the meantime, we can "thank" not only an appetite of Gore, but "Cowboys and Aliens." According to rumors, the project has been cost 300 million (budget plus advertising), but it is now clear that the picture of Jon Favreau does not discourage the box office. Western - a very delicate matter. Unless it is in the hands of Coen brothers and John Hillcoat. But they do without hundreds of millions!
The script to Rambo 5 is ready
Eighteen months ago, Sylvester Stallone said that he is sure on 99% in the completeness of franchise for John Rambo. As it turned out, one percent probability - a very high percentage. Screenwriter of thriller "Conan the Barbarian" Sean Hood has already completed his work on the fifth script to the "Rambo" and gave it to the studio Millenium.
Interestingly, the representatives of the studios did not react to the words of Sly. In August 2009, Nu Image and Millennium Films gave the green light to the next film franchise. Shooting planned for the spring of 2010, but the hype around the "Expendables" somewhat delayed progress of the fifth "Rambo", and eventually forgot about it.
Magazine "Empire" has found out that participation of Sean Hood - is not just a whim of the studio.
"I met with Mr. Stallone, twice a year - says Hood. - He gave me a book, his old script and scribbled some twenty pages, which inspired him at the last part of the saga about Rambo. "
What kind of book Sylvester Stallone has given to Sean is not known. However, all goes to the fact that all previous ideas can be forgotten. There was talk that John Rambo will save a girl stolen by drug cartels near the Mexican border. Also said that the fifth film will be a prequel - and this is also true.
"Today I do not know if Mr. Stallone will star in" Rambo 5 "- continues Sean Hood. - He is very busy working on "Expendables 2" and "Bullet to the head." But Millenium hired me to finish the script and finish the story. I hope that he will agree to one more "Rambo" in style of "Unforgiven" from Clint Eastwood ".
Brad Pitt will be the grey man
Director of "Masters night," James Gray is going to film the book of Mark Greene, "Gray Man." Major role in the thriller about a former CIA operative, which became a killer will play Brad Pitt. Gray promises to make a film from the perspective of the killer.
Hero of the debut novel called Kurt Greene Gintri. Entered into conflict with his superiors at the CIA operative was a secret death warrant. But he managed to escape, and now he's - gray man, a dangerous mercenary who carries out orders without the noise and dust. Grey Man's reputation is growing every day. The true identity of the killer is not knowing anyone except former handler Kurt, Sir Donald Fittsroy. The CIA wants to see the Gray Man dead and ready to do anything to do this. His head hit man assigned to a big reward. And now, in the footsteps of the Grey Man are the best killers in the world.
For the director job on "Grey man" would be unusual: Gray for the most part takes the drama and action for it to be a novelty. However, director promises that his film will be different from other paintings, in which the former agents go to the other side of the law. James Gray is going to put a picture from the perspective of the killer. He has a similar trick in the film "We Own the Night," when filming a scene in which hero Joaquin Phoenix sees the killing of his father, the chief of police in the performance of Robert Duvall. "Almost every shot in that scene is shown from the perspective of Joaquin, and I want to make the new film in such a way," - says Gray.
James - a big fan of Paul Greengrass film about Jason Bourne, but is going to go his own way. "Paul came to shoot a documentary authenticity, and this is his style. I want to achieve the opposite effect and make the viewer feel as a professional killer. You attach human qualities to him, not moving away from his experience. "
It is interesting that James Gray has worked only one day with Brad Pitt. The director had to put adaptation of the novel "The Lost City of Z" with Pitt in the title role. But in the end the project was closed (according to rumors, Paramount did not agree with Gray on the issue fee), and Brad shoots now in another movie with "Z" in the title.
Pitt name mentioned in connection with the "Gray man" back in January of this year, but it was unclear how the actor will dispose of his time. The fact that he and his girlfriend Angelina Jolie will never work in parallel - the actors are trying to alternate their projects, so as not to leave children unattended.
Shooting of "Grey Man" will begin in January and February 2012.
Milla Jovovich will back at the fifth time
If you are married to a director who has shot two films of franchises "Resident Evil" of four, then sooner or later you will shoot and in the fifth. Milla Jovovich and Paul Anderson complete their cooperation in the "Musketeers" and preparing for "Resident Evil 5."
The first film of series has been released in 2002 with the budget of 33 million and brought in worldwide box office over 100 million dollars. Then franchise has changed director, but remained unchanged heroine - the deadly beauty Alice. The latter series, which also shot Anderson earned in the United States only 60 million (the same part of the budget picture), but added the rest of the world has 236 million. That’s why, there were no doubts about the start of the fifth part.
"Resident Evil 5" was subtitled "Retribution" and, according to Bloody Disgusting, Paul Anderson is going to make a film on his own script. It is not known whether will return in the next extension Sienna Guillory, who plays Jill Valentine, but in her Twitter, actress wrote that she would return. Insiders say the opposite and argue that this role is already looking for another star.
Filming of "Resident Evil 5: Retribution" will begin this October.
Alice will demonstrate her ability to fight with the mutants in Toronto and Tokyo. Plot details are kept in secret.
Release of the fifth part of franchise is scheduled for September 14, 2012.
