In the American box office there is an expanse. The epic about the confrontation families Burns and Focker's "Little Fockers". Three-dimensional comic reinterpretation of Jonathan Swift's classic "Gulliver's Travels" with Jack Black in the title role. "True Grit" by brothers Coen, threatening to become one of the greatest achievements of filmmakers. In limited release are "The Illusionist" Sylvain Shome on the script of the legendary Jacques Tati and the last work of Sofia Coppola "Somewhere."

"Little Fockers"
Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) is the father of twins and more or less established a relationship with the father in law - a former CIA agent Jack (Robert De Niro). He plans to appoint a head-in-law family clan Burns, only in their lives once again burst into the various obstacles and absurdities, over again strain relations between the conflicted families.
The gap between second and third series of Fockers saga was in six years old. Previous franchise movies became hits (the sequel has collected in world box office more than half a billion dollars), although both films and do not represent something extraordinary - the usual, quite understandable in terms jokes comedy from the cohort of The Frat Pack with Ben Stiller. The versatility of situations and confident acting duo have played in favor of movies.
In the sequel, were added Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand, in the last ten years, actually interrupted her vacation from the movie only twice, both times for these films by Jay Roach.
The third part of Fockers filmed by Paul Weitz, uses all the past series of coups, but does not issue any new themes (though the name has to) and does not offer original solutions for jokes.
That’s why the movie has so low rating at American critics, is unlikely, however, able to interfere with the commercial results of the film, which, although this time may be below the previous achievements of two earlier movie.

"True Grit"
Young Mattie Ross (Haley Staynfeld) loses her father, who was shot by Tom Cheney cowboy (Josh Brolin), once a long time dealing in gang circles.
She decides to take revenge and to employ the drinker, but an experienced marshal Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges) to find and deliver the fugitive to justice, well, or, if it so happened to kill the offender. In their quest will help Texas Ranger La Boeuf (Matt Damon), which is also seeking Cheney for crimes committed in the assigned state.
When creating their version of "True Grit" the Coen brothers were guided primarily not to the classic western of 1969, but the book-source of Charles Portis. The film by Henry Hathaway one of the brothers called "good", preferring the literary version. And indeed, the film with John Wayne was too resilient enough to grim story, and most of his works fit into a single actor "Oscar" of the main American cowboy.
On account of the new movie there are a lot of positive critics’ reviews, great box office and a number of good rewards, except in the Golden Globes, whose selectors have ignored the brothers’ movie.

"The Illusionist"
The illusionist Tatishchev becomes aware of his lack of demand in an era when fashion includes a rock band and various jukeboxes, entertaining the audience better than the illusionist. In a Scottish village, he meets a young and naive girl who was probably the last, really admiring Tatishchev and believing in magic. Together they travel to Edinburgh, where the magician, in order not to upset his newly friend, will have to grasp the basics of traditional crafts.
In "The Illusionist" grotesque and cabaret style of animator Sylvain Shome mixed with sad-happy style of the great French comedian Jacques Tati. The script of the latter, alas, was the basis for this cartoon. Tati did not dare to put it in his lifetime, considering it too personal. The daughter of Tati has given the right on the text to Shome after his father died.
The author of "The Triplets of Belleville" has changed scenario a little, moved the scene from Prague to Edinburgh (where his Django Films studio is located), added some episodes, accurately and faithfully preserved the aesthetics Tati art. Even films of Tati have never been so beautiful, like this one, where animators of the tape headed by Shome came to drawing the characters and backgrounds rear.
Critics have reacted to "The Illusionist" with great enthusiasm. Moreover the tape is in the most prestigious tops and in nomination for a Golden Globe.

"Gulliver's Travels"
Lemuel Gulliver gets a job to go to a neighborhood of Bermudas, in order to refute the legend of disappearances in infamous Triangle. After falling into the whirlpool, the hero finds himself on the shore and around him had already gathered a considerable number of Lilliputians trying to figure out who has gotten onto their beach.
Enough misanthropic satirical novel by Jonathan Swift could not bear to mankind acquittals, but managed to become part of pop-cultural heritage. First, it was designed for children, and now, "Gulliver's Travels" appears in open comedy version. Jack Black, such as those mentioned above, Ben Stiller, is a member of a cohort of leading American comedians of The Frat Pack.
Reviewers reacted coolly to the "Gulliver" by Rob Letterman, before engaged in animation and was known for his staging of the hit for studio 20th Century Fox "Shark Tale" and "Monsters vs. Aliens."

"Somewhere"
Successful actor John Mark (Stephen Dorff) mired in the legendary Hotel Chateau Mormon. His ex-wife left him their daughter (El Fanning).
The latest tape of Sofia Coppola has rehabilitated director after the lukewarm reception of her historical picture "Marie Antoinette". Drama "Somewhere" is largely overlaps with Coppola Jr. work "Lost in Translation." John Mark is like the same Bob Harris from "Lost in Translation", only younger and demanded, however, equally alienated and unhappy. On account of the movie there are "The Golden Lion in Venice” and numerous praises of critics.

Last weekend USA premieres

Last weekend the U.S. release has become a battlefield of three major premiere. Sequel to "Tron" by Joseph Kosinski, claiming the title of one of the biggest releases of the year. Adaptation of the classic cartoon "Yogi Bear". High-budget romantic comedy "How do you know?" A more modest number of copies has gotten tape "Rabbit hole" with Nicole Kidman.

“Tron: The Legacy”
Genius programmer Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) has lost for many years. After twenty years of his disappearance, the son of the hero, Sam (Garrett Hedlund) is trying to clarify the circumstances of missing fathers. As a result, he finds himself inside a computer program, which is sharpened considerably older, but still alive, Kevin.
The original tape of Stephen Lisberger "Tron" (did not find a particular box-office success in contrast to the published one year later movie "War Games" by John Bedem on similar theme) for many years was considered a cult among different kinds of geeks and therefore has earned the reputation as a bit frivolous. Already in the early 2000's the ratio of the film was less frivolous, and soon rang bells, signaling the beginning of the renewed interest to the tape.
Critics have reacted with indifference to the tape, appreciating its technological excellence, against which, they said, lost everything else, this level is not appropriate.

"Yogi Bear"
When Gellistone Park begins to lose visitors, the owner decides to get rid of the burden by selling the land. Thus, employees will lose their jobs and the green zone, but also lose their shelter and its inhabitants, including troublemaker Yogi Bear and his nephew Boo Boo.
One of the major treasures of the studio Hanna-Barbera Yogi Bear in 1961 became the star of a full show, which lasted just a single season, but after overgrown with numerous sequels, including full-length movies. Sparing antagonist of the bear is Ranger Smith spends most of his working time in trying to protect ordinary visitors of the park from the encroachments of Yoga in their food, offering food to the hero to seek other ways of fishing.
After the commercial success of the film adaptation of "Scooby Doo" with computerized dog instead of hand-drawn idea of a new version of "Yogi" is not perceived by some shocking event. The only problem is that mostly the entire cult formed around a cartoon, basically fit into the limits of U.S. territory. But the scale of Eric Brevig tape is at least: a large budget of $ 80 million and the stars (Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake), who gave their votes to the heroes.
Aykroyd has admited that for him to speak for Yoga - an important and worthy job, given the national love for the character. One of the notable moments of a tape in a joint voice of the two stars during the entire process - most often the actors have to recite the text alone.
Critics have reacted on the movie with some disdain, stating that "The Bear" - in general, relatively digestible family movie, but hardly worthy of repeated viewing because of its strong stamping.

“Tangled” review

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (No Ratings Yet)

To write review of the full-length animation cartoons of Walt Disney studio is rather extremely complicated but at the same time simple deal. Complicated, because they are all ultimately one and the same, and to highlight something special in the next project - a non-trivial task. A simple, because all the emotions generated by the body for a half hour show another Disney creation can be described by only one word - love. That's about it, this and this is an animated fairy tale "Tangled”.
It is pointless to argue about the technical aspects of "Tangled”. Visuals usual in Disney's is impeccable, musical accompaniment habitually takes the soul, and the dub is as usual - high quality. If you're just a lover of high-end animation, "Tangled" - is another cartoon, which will take its rightful place in your collection of masterpieces of the genre.
But the technical details - is nonsense, when it comes to rethinking the classic Disney fairy tales. And here and begin complexity.
In "Tangled" everything in its place. And the blonde beauty with superhuman sized eyes, and reckless character, full of romanticism, and dumb minor characters, who are often funnier than the main, and classic villains with an equally non-human eyes, one look at that leaves no doubt as to their true intentions, and banality of the melodramatic techniques that go back even to the "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."
Why? Why do these works again and again?
The answer is only one here. Because being created by the Walt Disney genius animation tradition slaps in the most important thing.

Summing up films results of 2010

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (No Ratings Yet)
Loading ... Loading ...

2010 comes to an end, and we can sum up its preliminary results. Without a doubt, this year the total fees of Hollywood films in North America once again overcome a cherished mark of 10 billion dollars. The most successful projects are already known.
This is the "Toy Story 3" and "Alice in Wonderland" earned in worldwide box office for more than a billion dollars each. Closer to this result can still seventh part of "Harry Potter" and "Tron: legacy." But who has remained an outsider?
The loudest failure of the year, of course, was the film "Jonah Hex”. Being based on very cinematic and advanced materials, it nonetheless was able to earn at the box office only a quarter of its modest, by Hollywood standards, budget of 47 million dollars.
Slightly more successful was the drama "Extraordinary Measures" with Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser. The film is about the good doctor who tries to help the protagonist to save his children, did not cause much sympathy from the audience, and as a result of its global box office receipts barely exceeded 50 percent of 30-million budget.
Oddly, but in third place on the list was a fantastic movie "Repo Men," in which Jude Law and Oscar winner Forest Whitaker played the role of non-core anti-heroes, knocked out of the citizens paid for artificial organs. The film, whose potential was estimated as high enough before the premiere, earned at the box office only $18 million, that is covered 56 percent of its budget.
Going further, we have "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World". To predict the failure of this film, which is based on the popular comic book, it was virtually impossible, too great was the army of fans awaiting the film adaptation. But nevertheless, it happened. Painting hardly scraped together worldwide $46 million after failing to return 60 millionth production investments to creators.
And closes the top five - comedy "Furry Vengeance" with the same Brendan Fraser. Nature, rebelled against the greed of an enterprising businessman, worked better than others, allowing creators of the movie to earn $35 million at exactly the same budget.
Naturally, to assess the real effectiveness of certain film it should be taken into account the cost of its promotion, which sometimes make up half the production budget. In this light, the status of above mentioned films looks more pitiable.
A lot of movies released by Hollywood studios in 2010 and claimed the title of a blockbuster, could be recouped only through international release. This is the story of "Robin Hood", on the creation of which Ridley Scott somehow has managed to spend $ 200 million. The film grossed in U.S. theaters only half that amount, another 206 million picture earned through complacency foreign viewers. No better things were with the new creation of Zack Snyder's "Legends of the Guardians". With 80-million budget an animated fairy tale has failed in the U.S. box office, and only at the expense of its international duties slightly exceeded 100 million. And so on.
There is still a long and intense award season, whose results are still difficult to predict, because the number of really quality films in the past year was unusually high.
Well, then we are all waiting for that director Jon Favreau poetically called the "bloodbath." In 2011, we will be able to see a record number of potential hits, most of which have been filmed in 3D format. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2", "Transformers 3: The Other Side of the Moon", "Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides", "Green Lantern", "Thor", "The First Avenger: Captain America", "Rise of the Apes", "X-Men: First Class", "Super 8", "Kung Fu Panda 2" and many others.

Megamind review

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (No Ratings Yet)
Loading ... Loading ...

In the Metro City there is an eternal struggle in classic scenario: a cute genius Evil against blunt fistic Good. Evil - blue-skinned beard dude Megamind with a huge head - always comes up with intricate mechanisms, which are at a crucial moment fail. But once he is able to destroy superhero Macho-Man, and then ... the villain will be boring! And it would have ended very badly, if mega-villain didn’t fall in love. Studio Dreamworks Animation has created a new animated blockbuster "Megamind" - about feelings that we are moved by.
Charming Megamind is more like a hooligan Tony Stark in "Iron Man" than the real evil - he is a genius, has a weakness for beautiful young ladies and not a fool to have fun. And he demolishes the building is not out of malice, but purely out of boredom.
There two more reasons to compare Megamind with the Iron Man. First - as in the case of Tony Stark, Megamind surprisingly easy won audience hearts, he doesn’t walk the long beaten path, but represents something new and different in terms of cartoon stories.
Secondly, under the rocker fad of cartoon there was picked an excellent soundtrack. Exiting the cinema hall, you want immediately download onto your player those timeless hits, accompanying Megamind.
As with all extraordinarily talented cartoons (Dreamworks and Pixar), in "Megamind" there is also an elegant and subtly taught philosophy and ethics. This time the theme began calling and factors that affect it. From the words of the hero Kurt Russell, David Ames in another great film about feelings and emotional trauma, "Vanilla Sky":"We are driven by the five senses, David. So what brings you here, which of the five? Guilt? Revenge? Shame? Hate? ... Love?".
Megamind, of course, will transform the love. But, what is the charm of modern Hollywood cartoons and their differences from the same Hollywood movies - watch this transfiguration is not boring, but exciting and fun. In the cartoon, heroes can afford to be flippant: forget for a while about his love and passion - and with a head go away in the sparkling battle with the wicked!
Moreover, action and destruction in “Megamind” have been shown greatly. Excellent 3D provides necessary scale and texture tricks.
In sum, we must say that Dreamworks Animation pleased this year as never before. Joining the distinguished confrontation with the studio Pixar, Dreamworks began to create adult cartoons - in which ideas are more profound and long-lasting than any happy childhood. First came "How to Train Your Dragon" – a real "Avatar" for small children, then a fourth "Shrek" - cartoon "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" about golden section of relationship.
And now we have been presented "Megamind" - a stylish blue rooster, which history explains everything important about his childhood and destiny, choice and vocation, love, physical appearance and inner essence. He showed us the best in recent years cartoon apocalypse, and yet - even with the mega-brain, the main thing - all the same that holds the friendship, love and laughter!

“Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga`Hoole” review

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (No Ratings Yet)
Loading ... Loading ...

Recently released cartoon "Legend of the Guardians" can impress even the most skeptic viewer.
Owlet Soren and his brother were kidnapped by one owl clan, whose leader - an owl in the Iron Mask - is going to win the heavenly world. Soren managed to escape and he went to look for semi-mythical legendary owls clan - Guardians - to inform them about incoming danger.

Director of "Watchmen" and "300" Zack Snyder has filmed a stereo cartoon about owlet- warriors, which mixed the great battle with pure joy of flight and the birth of heroes.
Despite the excellent animation and delightful twists, "Guardians" seems a little bit unfinished. Visionary Snyder, who was accustomed to stud frame peas expanding blood in strips with rigid rating R, in creation of children's cartoon seemed taken aback - and crumpled few epics owl legends.

Previous film of director - "Watchmen" - already on the opening titers has been immersed in three-dimensional world of alternative history: perhaps it was in perfect picture and in the absence of words.

"Legends of the Guardians" begins with an empty, pretentious chatting, and until mid-may can't achieve the desired degree of legendary - although the book on which was filmed the cartoon, apparently was aimed to become a children's "Lord of the Rings" with its fairy-tale kingdom of owls, warring with each other.
Zack Snyder would not have been the main director of contemporary-visionary, if he didn't show us a scene in the sweet slo-mo, from which the shivers running through the skin. As with "300" and "Watchmen",
"Legends of the Guardians" - a feast for the eyes, even from the second third. In addition to episodes, set in traditional Snyder spirit (Spartans attack), the cartoon impresses with animation, beautiful owls and nature, the majestic backdrop where the action occurs. Owls plumage fluttering in the wind, and for this you can watch with emotion as they want. Movements of birds look so natural and organic, that you involuntarily ask yourself: how many years animators have watched on the owls, so to accurately convey their habits, and gestures on the screen?

The whole cartoon is like continuous visual nirvana.

Under a terrific soundtrack the owls collide in a battle and ride through the fire grate and metal ring claws and helmets, and the characters grow, even in small and clumsy-looking owls. And the enthusiasm is not only on a visual level - "Guardians" delight and wise plot finds, lucidly explaining to the children simple and important things. That war is hell, but not pretentious heroics - and if you have to fight, do not click beak. Appearance doesn't define greatness, only good deals can make from you a hero.

Separately, we should mention and 3D. Stereo effect in the "Legends of the Guardians" is surprisingly nondescript, and absolutely nothing makes an already visually splendid cartoon. All together it produces muddled impression of the new creation by Zack Snyder.
