The king’s speech review
Conversational genre films are rarely enjoy widespread popularity among the public due to the fact that not all viewers are interested in a long time watching nothing but dialogues and slow walk of characters from one part of the scenery to another. To create such cinematographic is also rather difficult: if there will be some misleads with the actors or bad written dialogue - the film will like boring and tedious spectacle. But the good, that Tom Hooper would not allow any one of these errors and made "The King’s speech" into a dynamic and exciting picture, from which is simply impossible to look away.
After older brother abdicated from the crown, the Duke of York is preparing to take a seat on the British throne. However, due to a nervous stammer, from which he can’t even communicate with his children, he doubted his own abilities to lead country and employs unorthodox speech therapist named Lionel Logue. At the prow is a World War II and George VI is going to exert maximum efforts to prevent his voice filled with the spirit and the power to lead Britain to war against fascism.
At first it seems that voice doesn’t play significant role in human life, but in fact, becomes clear that the voice is indeed an important feature of a man, especially for the leader of the nation. So it turns out that this story is not so much about the restoration of voting, how to acquire courage and confidence. And it sounds much more interesting.
Thanks to well written dialogues, the smooth camera work and tight directing, despite the complete absence of any action, the movie looks very easily and with great interest. But the final speech of George on the whole country before the microphone became very tense. During it, we unconsciously want to maintain a king, as for all past two o'clock of the movie, it is impossible not to feel the sympathy to him.
In many respects this achievement is not only writers but also the actor who literally breathed life into this character. Colin Firth, delicately played King George VI. In the scenes with his participation does not feel any false, and during his stuttering seems, as if the actor contracted this disease, so naturally it looks.
No less sequenced get to play and Geoffrey Rush, whose role is deservedly got on the list of nominees for Academy Award 2011. Especially impressive scene samples of his character in a theatrical production, where Jeffrey shows just perfect mastery of impersonation.
"The King’s speech" - a magnificent biographical drama with deep characters, great directing and well-written dialogues that are simply a pleasure to watch and listen. I do not know whether this movie deserves the title "masterpiece", yet this is still too early to judge, but that is one of the best films of this year, it is difficult to argue.
