Westerns as a genre are in limbo during the whole 21 century. Movies about Wild West are practically not released, and those that are available – have fallen in box offices. In 2010, the Coen brothers finally changed this tradition, and their "True Grit" became a hit American products. But here there is a very strange situation: on the one hand ever for a revival of popularity the genre needs commercial hit more than ever, but on the other hand – this film is not so really cool to deserve so many accolades. It has been corny overrated.
Scenes in Westerns have always been very simple (usually something like "Crossing the bandit from point A to point B") and "True Grit" does not change this tradition. History tells us about young fourteen year old girl who hires a ranger and a senior marshal, and with them goes to look for the murderer of his father. However, this path will be very long.
When you see in the credits, the names of the Coen brothers, you are waiting for something special and extra ordinary. But, alas, here from the Coen themselves has almost nothing left: most characters are dull, plot has no surprises during the whole movie, and the dynamics has visited this film only in the last 20 minutes. And this is perhaps the main problem of the picture – it has no power, some spirit of adventure, of life, if you want. With works of the Coen this happens very rarely.
The only thing that can boast writers, in the main character - her stubbornness, impenetrable will to live and finish the case were transferred just fine. A lot of these have contributed to the young actress Hayley Staynfeld, in whose talent after this role, there are no doubts. Other actors are also good - Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are very charismatic in their roles.
There is no action here, that’s why the movie is a little dull. But even with the benefit of recreating an era in which takes place the movie, creators have coped well: costumes, camera work and human manners - all this is done at the proper level.
John Favreau in an interview has said about his fiction western "The Cowboys vs. Aliens", about the video, shown during the Super Bowl and the nude Olivia Wilde.
"At first we wanted the audience caught the atmosphere of the film. When we’ve shown the trailer to "Cowboys vs. Aliens" in November 2010, people did not know about what will be this film - funny or somber - but the movie, clearly, was impressed. Now, when the audience is a little aware of the idea of the film, they know its name, we give them to understand that they are expected an adventure".
In the first trailer Daniel Craig wakes up in the desert with unknown device on his wrist and remembered nothing. The dusty town in the western U.S., where he soon turns out to be, has been bombarded with the strange flying objects.
"Personally, I can tell about the first trailer: "Bitchen! What are the things in the sky? Where did they come from?" Then we see a blaster on guy arm. In the second trailer at the approach of the ships all rush to the shelter, except this guy who jumps on top of them ... and we'll see what will be then".
- People will be analyzing all 30-second spots, which were showed during the Super Bowl. Tell us, what we didn’t see?
You did not see aliens, we want to hold them. We do not disclose the places where the action is. All that was in the first teaser, concerns only the beginning of the film and its ties. In the second trailer - more adventures as the story progresses. We're just trying to make you jittery.
- Don’t you afraid that people find your movie a kind of comedy?
Yes, there are such fears. I think the first reaction of people on a similar name, is the idea that this film - a comedy. Previously, spectators were disappointed if they did not see Westerns tough cowboys, throwing out each other from the windows and all other moments, connected with it. Going to a western, you want to see white-haired warrior on a parched plain, this iconic figure who, as if by magic, appears on the horizon.
- Let me ask you one more important question, exciting, certainly, a lot of people. Nude Olivia Wilde at the fire looks pretty intriguing ...
Totally agree with you. The meaning of this scene is not clear now, but when you watch a movie, all will become clear.
- People are wondering, she might be - one of the aliens?
That's because she's naked?
- Yes, and it looks like some kind of ritual. Throughout the trailer Olivia throws a knowing look at Craig, and it seems that she is the one who keeps up.
OK, interesting theory. You are the first who asked me about this. Once this scene make you think over, it means that we do our jobs well. Unfortunately, I can deny or confirm nothing (laughs).
- Does criticism of some moments in the video, if it exists, of course, somehow offend you? You have probably already thought about what else you can improve in the film before it will be released in cinemas in July 2011?
You know, there are always skeptics who do not understand the things. Perhaps, seeing the movie, they said: "What is it, a parody of a horror movie?" But what is clear from the 30-second teaser during the Super Bowl? The best way for those who did not understand - ask those who know more. I'm sure till summer everything will be all right. We lit the wick, and let those who are waiting for our movie, talk to those who do not wait it.
- In other words, you call for help of the missionaries?
If people want to dig up what you're buried, they will discuss it with each other. And if they do not want to dig up, will still be talking about it (laughs).

In an interview with Johnny Depp, star of the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" has told how he worked with Penelope Cruz and Rob Marshall.
"It was great and fun, no problems ..."
- How do you like shooting in London near the Greenwich "sea gates"?
Greenwich is beautiful, magnificent. The fact that all the shooting in Greenwich for me came down only to the execution of tricks, like, jumping from one coach to another, because you also know that sometimes I perform tricks by myself.
- Is this important for you? Do you like to participate in the action movie?
Yes, of course, because there is so-called language of movement, sign language of a hero, and I think it's very important. And while the stuntman Chris looks great on my place, still, from time to time you will be able to witness the Captain Jack Sparrow's own persona.
- How do you deal with Rob Marshall? Is everything different this time?
Oh, this is a true delight! Clearly, each director is original, each with its own style. But Marshall is a real gift. First of all, he is a wonderful person, very kind and able to work as a team. He has fantastic ideas about the project, and he, in my opinion, perfectly embodies them into action. Yes, he is a special person.
- You brought a lot of your own ideas into the script of the fourth part, is not it?
Well, it looks like a research center, a factory of thoughts, you know. You finally gotten some ideas, and if they come to mind, accept them.
- How is Captain Jack Sparrow in the fourth part? Will we see some new aspects of his life?
Well, there will be some variety in sexual life (laughs). Beware, spoiler! (laughs). To be honest, despite the fact that the entire movie the main characters are "in search of themselves", old Jack has found himself a long time ago. I do not think that there is a room into which he had not yet come, he just beats his head against the wall.
- How did you work with Penelope Cruz?
Oh, Penelope - a serious force to be reckoned with. We filmed together in the movie "Blow", and so I could say that "we really sherfed together for some years ago" (laughs).
- I’ll make such title to the interview?
Yeah. In general, we were shooting in the "Blow", and it was great, I mean that it is cool, a real giant in our business. You can pour out your emotions in the atmosphere, and it will take and catch your pass, and then come back spun. It's incredibly stimulating, she is the person, whom I admire, she's one of my best friends. So yeah, it is cool that we were filming together.
Obsession and following of the path to self-destruction - a favorite theme of cinematic work of director Darren Aronofsky. Thanks to the incredibly catchy style and constant change of the setting of his own films, Aronofsky can always surprise the audience with something special, even if the original topic seems erased (to recall the excellent drama "Requiem for a Dream"). In "Black Swan", the director again turns to his favorite theme, but secondary sense is absent, as he once again is able to show the audience a really catchy and totally original film.
Ballet Theatre Prima Nina the whole her life is striving to be the best among her rivals. Having a central role in the very important performance, she did not realize that in order to adequately play this role, she will have to open another person inside, about whom she did not suspect. The situation is complicated by the fact that she has a worthy competitor, which has all chances to receive all Nina’s roles.
By itself, the plot, despite the seeming simplicity at first, is very exciting and raises an interesting topic: does the art need such victims? "Of course, it is worth!" thought Nina and began to look inside for those qualities which she lacked, to play her role better than anyone. But no wonder they say that you can play the best role only if you live it. And in the end, Nina gradually loses herself, trying to transform in her character.
In order to provide viewer with the fully internal state of Nina and the changes in her character, the director uses the incredible visual tricks, making them incredibly surreal. Over time, you did not even realize what reality is and what imagination of Nina is. Despite the fact that there are no villains in the movie it has been called "a ballet thriller". It is impossible to describe the final in words - you just need to see it.
When there are quieter scenes, the picture makes us happy with graceful ballet, while watching of which it seems as if you watch a real theatre drama.
In general, we can say that "Black Swan" is absolutely deservedly got its nomination for an Oscar. It’s really a great picture that is worth seeing, even if you're not a fan of ballet. With regard to the fundamental question "Is it worth it?" Probably worth it, because it is such an art which called the real one!
1). Despite the fact that the director of "500 Days of Summer" toil on the soil of restarting the "Spider-Man", he looks to the future. On the horizon of Mark Webb's is a fantasy film "Age of Rage". The script will write Mark Hayman - co-author of "Black Swan".
Hayman began his career as an assistant of Darren Aronofsky in the company's director Protozoa Pictures. Script to the story of a ballerina, a perfectionist, Mark wrote in collaboration with Andres Heinz, and John McLaughlin. Nomination for an Oscar is paying off: the studio Fox Searchlight has expressed interest to the solo project of Hayman.
"Age of Rage"- a story developing in post-apocalyptic Earth. All adults have died, and a group of teenagers trying to build a new society.
Mark Hayman, tending to science fiction, has written a cyber thriller "The Mechanical Man", who plans to put Aronofsky.
Marc Webb to date has not decided on his next after "Spider-Man" project, but declined to "Age of Rage", because it close to theme, and the base for scenario would be his idea.
2). Twilight star Kristen Stewart and Viggo Mortensen headed the lists of actors, which offered a major role in the fairy tale "Snow White and the Huntsman". Michael Fassbender, whose name some time ago was attributed to the project, chose another movie.
Universal Studios has already conducted tests of several young actresses. Among them are Daniel Riley Keoh, Felicity Jones and Alicia Wikander.
Kristen Stewart - the most famous actress among all candidates for the role of Snow White. In between filming "Twilight" saga Stewart starred in small independent projects. Work on the Universal project will be her first film at the studio-majors.
Universal is also currently in talks with Viggo Mortensen. If the actor agrees, he will play the role of a person who is ordered to kill Snow White. Instead, the ranger gets mentor girls and teaches her to survive in the woods so as not to encounter the Evil Queen. For this role invited Charlize Theron.
Last time, Mortensen appeared on screen in a post-apocalyptic drama "The Road". This year he will be seen in a role of Sigmund Freud in a tape of David Cronenberg's "A dangerous method."
Once the star of the original "Beverly Hills" Jason Priestley and Luke Perry refused to take part in the restarted show on "The CW", they gladly accepted the invitation to work together in a new project of Hallmark Movie Channel, the series "Goodnight for Justice". Of course, we will not see Priestley on the screen, he will take place only in the director's chair, but Luke Perry will perform in the role he created specifically for himself: the fair judge of the Wild West - John Goodnight.
Before the premiere, Perry and Priestley have answered some questions in the interview with journalists:
- Do you play cowboys when you were kids?
Perry: Jason played except in hockey, well, I'm very fond of cowboys. When I was a kid, Westerns such as "Wild, Wild West" were very popular. Although in the games I've always been a bad guy.
Priestley: Moreover, Luke has never parted with his black hat!
- Jason, you were a director of many episodes of "Beverly Hills". How did that experience help you in the present job?
Priestley: Aaron Spelling, who was producer of the show, told me one thing, when I first sat down in director's chair: "Look, not to spoil everything." Well, I didn’t spoil. And with this film, I managed within 15 days.
- Luke, how do you think, would Aaron like your new show?
Perry: That would be just for his part, because Aaron liked the characters, who are trying to do right and with respect for women.
- Imagine Brandon Walsh and Dylan McKay in 2011, what would they do?
Priestley: Brandon would be a guy of the old school and probably would have sided with the Democratic Party and worked in Washington.
Perry: And Dylan would have traveled on the "Range Rover" along the coast and surfing without a penny in a pocket.
"Goodnight for Justice" will air this Saturday.
In Mark Webber, who played Stephen Stills in the comedy "Scott Pilgrim vs. all" has born a son. Being two years in the role of the father, the actor decided to shoot the film and invited to his low-budget film Michael Cera, Amanda Sayfred, Shannyn Sossamon and Jason Ritter.

Stars of the movie "The King’s speech" took home the top prize of the evening - for best ensemble cast. The best actor is Colin Firth, and Best Actress - Natalie Portman. Award for supporting actor departed actors from "Fighter" Christian Bale and Melissa Leo.
For Bail the award SAG was actually a gift for his birthday - yesterday, the actor celebrated 37 years old. Taking the statuette, Christian from the scene thanked Dicky Eklund, Mickey's brother, a boxer Eklund, whom he played in the film. "There he sits - said the actor. - Thank you for letting me play you".
Backstage Bale went to Geoffrey Rush, who by then had already received his prize in the ensemble cast, "The King’s speech" and asked him what he was going to do with the statuette: "It is well, hard!" At that Rush suggested that there are no other ways and he had to carry it with him. Bronze statuette of the actor with two masks doesn’t really light: it weighs 5.5 pounds, which is 2 pounds more than an Oscar.
Pregnant Natalie Portman didn’t carry a hefty prize. The speech of actresses was not so emotional as on the "Golden Globe", but Portman has dedicated the award to parents: "They taught me flat out at work to one hundred percent and never do not bounce".
Melissa Leo, she won SAG Awards for Best Actress and is not shy in terms: "Why do a lot of people like "Fighter"? Because it is amazing movie!"
