The place where money never sleeps

Review of the drama "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps".
Gordon Gekko a gnome of 1980 came from the jail after being there for eight years instead of his crimes buddies, and publishes the book "Greed: Is it good?". Nobody remembers him. The world has changed. The young dude from Wall Street is going to marry his daughter, who believes Gekko a real scoundrel. Then it has happened bank, and after - the world financial crisis and Gordon Gekko gets a chance to regain financial domination. Oliver Stone has released the "Wall Street: Twenty Years Later" - old man's movie about how the great Greek tragedy has turned into Santa Barbara.

Stone - a very uneven filmmaker: on every his full strong movie like "Platoon," "Born on the 4th of July" and "Natural Born Killers," we have flimsy "Alexander" and "Twin Towers".
Alas, "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" is closer to the second category than the first: continuation of the main financial dramas of all time came loose, naive and overly melodramatic.

Newly released on screens his best (and one of the best in the movie) antagonist, Gordon Gekko, Stone wanted to philosophize and play in "The Devils Advocate" without mysticism the whole movie, Gekko destroys relationship of Jake Moore, the hero of Shia LaBeouf, and his daughter, instead of engaging in financial scams.

For the continuation of his best paintings, Oliver Stone has chosen perfect time. If the first film showed a real scandal on Wall Street - 1985 with insider information, revealing along the way of psychology and morality of Finance, the second could be the chronicles of the crisis - the inheritance of Stone a little more attention to proper anamnesis financial collapse come upon an American and then global market in the late 2000's.

Michael Douglas has become noticeably older, but still looks cheerful and impressive - a man-block of the financial world. His Gordon Gekko pulls a new "Wall Street" from the quagmire of an indistinct story, but he is not enough on the screen in order to fully rescue the second film.

New “Bourne” without Bourne

Director of the fourth "Bourne" series Tony Gilroy last weekend said that he was going to approach the film with a somewhat unexpected quarter. Despite the fact that the project has been called "The Bourne Legacy" as one of the novels about spies, it would not be based on the book. Gilroy promises an original storyline, in which there is no Jason Bourne.

"I read the news that I was appointed a director and would like to clarify something - said Gilroy in conversation with Hollywood insider Jeffrey Wells. "Bourne Legacy" is not a reboot or prequel. We're not going to replace another actor Matt Damon. We will have a brand new hero. The film will stand alone and does not depend on the already filmed trilogy".

It is worth noting that the novel is titled "The Bourne Legacy" was released relatively recently - five years ago. Its author was listed, Wang Lastbader, not Robert Ludlum, composed the book, on the basis of which has been filmed the previous movie.

"Probably the easiest way to describe the project as an extension of the existing universe - says Tony Gilroy. - Jason Bourne would not be in the movie, but he is alive and well. Events featured in the trilogy, will be the starting point to events in our film. I'll build a new environment, come up with a legend and an expanding network of conspiracies. Our new world will change and move up, and eventually Jason Bourne come back. "

It is worth remembering what Gilroy is behind all three existing movies - he worked on scripts. It is also interesting that the director does not preclude the return of Bourne. So if Matt Damon is still again decides to play a spy, he will easily fit into new universe.

“Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga`Hoole” review

Recently released cartoon "Legend of the Guardians" can impress even the most skeptic viewer.
Owlet Soren and his brother were kidnapped by one owl clan, whose leader - an owl in the Iron Mask - is going to win the heavenly world. Soren managed to escape and he went to look for semi-mythical legendary owls clan - Guardians - to inform them about incoming danger.

Director of "Watchmen" and "300" Zack Snyder has filmed a stereo cartoon about owlet- warriors, which mixed the great battle with pure joy of flight and the birth of heroes.
Despite the excellent animation and delightful twists, "Guardians" seems a little bit unfinished. Visionary Snyder, who was accustomed to stud frame peas expanding blood in strips with rigid rating R, in creation of children's cartoon seemed taken aback - and crumpled few epics owl legends.

Previous film of director - "Watchmen" - already on the opening titers has been immersed in three-dimensional world of alternative history: perhaps it was in perfect picture and in the absence of words.

"Legends of the Guardians" begins with an empty, pretentious chatting, and until mid-may can't achieve the desired degree of legendary - although the book on which was filmed the cartoon, apparently was aimed to become a children's "Lord of the Rings" with its fairy-tale kingdom of owls, warring with each other.
Zack Snyder would not have been the main director of contemporary-visionary, if he didn't show us a scene in the sweet slo-mo, from which the shivers running through the skin. As with "300" and "Watchmen",
"Legends of the Guardians" - a feast for the eyes, even from the second third. In addition to episodes, set in traditional Snyder spirit (Spartans attack), the cartoon impresses with animation, beautiful owls and nature, the majestic backdrop where the action occurs. Owls plumage fluttering in the wind, and for this you can watch with emotion as they want. Movements of birds look so natural and organic, that you involuntarily ask yourself: how many years animators have watched on the owls, so to accurately convey their habits, and gestures on the screen?

The whole cartoon is like continuous visual nirvana.

Under a terrific soundtrack the owls collide in a battle and ride through the fire grate and metal ring claws and helmets, and the characters grow, even in small and clumsy-looking owls. And the enthusiasm is not only on a visual level - "Guardians" delight and wise plot finds, lucidly explaining to the children simple and important things. That war is hell, but not pretentious heroics - and if you have to fight, do not click beak. Appearance doesn't define greatness, only good deals can make from you a hero.

Separately, we should mention and 3D. Stereo effect in the "Legends of the Guardians" is surprisingly nondescript, and absolutely nothing makes an already visually splendid cartoon. All together it produces muddled impression of the new creation by Zack Snyder.

Daniel Radcliffe about the last episode of great Harry Potter part I

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" - Part One and Two - complete saga of the battle between good and evil that takes place in the world of wizards, invisible to muggle eyes. Resource ComingSoon has interviewed Daniel Radcliffe and asked the British actor about what viewers should expect in the final part of "Harry Potter".

- What are the main differences of the first and second parts of "Deathly Hallows"?
"It will be two very different movies. The first part is similar to the road ... sort of narrative. First of all, viewers will see how the guys will be outside of Hogwarts at the first time, and this is important, because we started shooting the seventh film at a time when started premiere showings of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." When I attended these shows, I kept thinking: "My God, how the seventh film will be different from the sixth," because when viewers see our heroes in a completely unfamiliar situation for them, viewers will have to treat them differently. Still, in the first part is gathering information and data required for the final battle. The second film will be essentially one big battle from beginning to end. Episodes of the battles will be one after other, a kind non-stop battle".

- The shooting comes to an end. Is this a reason to worry or rejoice?
"I feel a strange feeling. It is a very close perspective really: once, a few weeks later, I come here to make up for the last time. Actually, there is no reason for the experience, though, naturally, it will be a very emotional day, the day will say goodbye to many people. Exciting to look forward and wait for something new. But honestly, I really miss the team, which has become a family, and you probably will be impossible to recreate on these projects. Say goodbye to the people you knew 10 years, it is very difficult, so this is a sad day. "

- Do you have a favorite movie in Harry Potter saga?
"No. Well, okay, let's say, the fifth. Hopefully, it will eclipse the seventh, both sides of it. But now, it's "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix". That's exactly it, because I have not changed my mind after the "Prince Half-Blood". You know, I always look forward with fear to journalists questions: "What is your favorite movie?" Because the most obvious answer is: "Last" (laughs). And usually, it's truthful answer".

- How's Ginny? Will we see scenes with Harry and Ginny alone?
"Oh, yes, definitely, there will be such scene. A couple of times they kiss. There is an episode with a kiss during the battle. "

- Really?
"Yes, I must admit, it was my suggestion (laughs). Unfortunately, the kiss turned out not as dramatic as we would like. But still good that it happened because it was the moment when Harry and Ginny may have seen each other for the last time. If a similar situation arose in real life, I would have kissed all around. In short, Ginny is ok, actually she's my wife, and it's great".

- Can you tell us something about the epilogue?
"We did some test doubles in makeup, but the epilogue has not been yet removed. For me, everything's cool, though of course I am judging subjective. I did not see the makeup of Emma and Bonnie, but what they did with Rupert, looked cool and very funny".

- Mr. Weasley became the father?
"Yes, and he has never missed his lunches. (Laughs) Actually, I saw only one version of his makeup. By the time we begin to film an epilogue, his appearance may change. But then, what I saw was great".

- Do you watch movies from time to time?
"I see every movie on average three or four times, but never after the premiere. After the premiere, I must watch it with my parents in order they say their opinion about this".

- Have you thought over what will you do after "Harry Potter" or do you want long vacations?
"I do not want any break."

- Are there any projects or roles, where you are going to participate?

"There are many projects that I'm interested, but still nothing has been confirmed. Hopefully, I'll have more information in a month or so. "

- What kind of roles do you mean? Again about magic?
"I simply must play the wizard in glasses. Whatever role I was not offered, I have to wear glasses."

- Why?
"I do not know. I have excellent eyesight."

- Did you ask some props for memory?
"Of course it will be glasses. Hopefully, they will give my favorite, with prime lenses that I wore most often. Even the magic wand is not so important for me because I used different in different films. So yes, glasses from the first part will be a great souvenir. "

Who will film Halo?

Attempts to turn the video game Halo in a feature film being made for five years. Result is rather sad: studios are looking at the budget and scaling down the project. However, in connection with the release of Halo game next version: Reach, whose sales totaled $ 200 million in the first day, there was hope.
Five years ago, the president of Columbia Studios Peter Shlessel first announced the launch of the development of the film on the famous game. He drew Alex Garland ("The Beach", "28 Days Later") writing the script, issuing him a check for $ 1 million. Sponsored by Garland maker games Microsoft: Shlessel fundamentally decided to work independently in order to sell the project to the side.

Finished script was sent to Major studios. To be accompanied by a scenario with a price tag.
$ 10 million, or 15 percent of box office receipts. To sell the project with such conditions is rather difficult, but possible. Fox and Universal teamed up to work on the adaptation of Halo, by dividing the sum and bargained 10 percent instead of 15.

The point moved the ball rolling with the arrival of Peter Jackson. He brought his friend, the young director Neil Blomkamp, and he stayed in producing chair. Jackson and his team have bargained for a favorable terms. The budget grew.

Fox bosses were unhappy with the grown up costs, because in return they receive a very small piece of the pie. As a result, the studio demanded that Jackson died appetite and accepts a smaller fee.
Of course, Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp immediately left the project.
Universal, has already invested $ 12 millions in development, was furious and asked Fox representatives in the courtroom.

And, despite on such an unpleasant story, there is one studio, which is ready to pick up the dusty Halo flag and carry it to the masses. DreamWorks is going to make a film, but the basis will be not a video game, but its novelization. If the studio will try to crank out this trick again, DreamWorks will indicate that they have the basis for an entirely different material and, consequently, totally different movie.

To interrupt noble undertaking by Spielberg studio can Microsoft company, which is very meticulous regard to the submission of their offspring in other media forms. But if DreamWorks can convince the producer that they will shoot really good movie, and bring to the work the right team, then everything will be alright.

By the way, this is not the first time that DreamWorks is invoked in connection with the Halo. Last year, there were crawled rumors that the film will be removed by Steven Spielberg. One can only hope that the director did not give up this idea.

Everything is comparable

Everything is comparable. Another reason to repeat this statement came immediately after Tony Curtis death, one of the last of the old actor race. In fact, that it was just another race, we have no doubt, just look at the pictures of Hollywood era pillars which are now commonly called "golden". Telling the truth, comparing those actors with current stars on red tracks, despite all of the same diamonds and glossy perfection, today actors are highly comminuted.
It is difficult to articulate what exactly are these differences. Of course, not the level of acting. In today's Hollywood is no less real talent, oversee the work which is admired on the brink of orgasm.
Rather, it is that elusive "something" be erected between us, devouring popcorn, and them, shining on the screen, an insurmountable wall that separates the world of dreams of the everyday routine. In an era of platinum blondes and laconic gentlemen, they became symbols of the sexual revolution and fashion icon, caused mass hysteria imitations, became presidents' favorites and managed to stay young, dying from an overdose of sleeping pills or just leaving the shadow in the memory of viewers.
Who can remember very old Gregory Peck or Clark Gable? Perhaps someone will remember 60-year-old Audrey Hepburn or 50-year-old Vivien Leigh? Can we compare the most beautiful woman in Hollywood Angelina Jolie with Marilyn Monroe?
Words and definitions are useless. Just look at them at the zenith of their glory, in order to understand how infinitely simple and trite their current successors. Even the most titled, even sexy.
And one more. Wolfgang Pettersen film "Troy" is very remarkable. It is not because the director succeeded especially deeply into the legacy of Homer. Because in this picture have met those same two races in the form of Brad Pitt and Peter O `Tool a star in the shining sunset, fine actor with Apollo appearance.

Faster than Fairy

"Tooth Fairy" Dwayne Johnson begins the rapid shooting of dastardly villains in the new film by George Tillman Jn. "Faster". According to the plot, Johnson hero is not a duck and violent thug and a criminal, but in his moral code it is provided severe blood revenge for the death of family members, so with this he will be busy throughout the film. His brother has been killed ten years ago by his criminal colleagues, and now Johnson coming back after jail will cut heads of all of them.
Taking into account trailer, Dwayne has rather bad fantasy, so we won't get a bloody slasher, although everything looks very briskly, rough and natural. Therefore, producers and viewers are expecting for a strong brutal crime thriller about the imminent revenge, impotence of justice and the rule of armed justice! So speak, a standard gentlemen set. (Soon, Nicolas Cage in the movie "Crazy ride" will do the same, but in 3D.) In general, let a little corny, but Dwayne Johnson in anger is quite pretty.
Also in the trailer we can see Billy Bob Thornton. He got the role of watchful policeman who will stick the law and order at every Dwayne step. This role is very similar to Thornton one in charmingly idiotic thriller "Eagle Eye". Though agent Thomas Morgan of mentioned film hastily changed his hair and migrated here, chasing Johnson's character.
Other roles in the feature film "Faster " went to Carla Gugino, Maggie Grace, Mun Bladgud, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Tom Berenger, who after shooting in "Inception" by Christopher Nolan's, finally began to act in serious movies.

In the drama of Mark Romanek, "Do not let me go," Keira Knightley in the company of two friends (Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield), leaving the English boarding school, where they spent their entire lives, and learns that all schoolchildren are clones, which were grown for to become donors.
In an interview with PARADE actress shares her impressions about her complex role, and tells about days of "piracy" which are already left behind.

- About the intricate inner world of her heroine.
"You know, I think many people do not understand why these guys do not run away, and why did not revolt. Personally I, think that the story is not about that. It's about making a terrible fate that awaits you, and in spite of that you continue to live, and not run from yourself. Probably, the main characters behave, such way, because grown up and educated in certain circumstances, and because they are incredibly innocent. And that terrifies me most about this story, is the fact that they had no right to vote due to education obtained in a boarding school. This aspect explains much of their behavior. "

- About childhood.
"I think the personality development takes place in childhood. Good luck to those who have cool and understanding parents. Unfortunately, this good luck smiles, not to all. And the problem is those three guys is that they have been deprived of parental care. I'm who I'm. I have a very wise parents".

- If you will had the opportunity to know your future?
"I think I would have refused. I do not want to know. And what if my future is awful? And suddenly - really cool? No. In any case, it's bad, because if the predicted future is perfect, then you wait for it, but when it comes true, you're disappointed, because you expected more. And if it was predicted trouble, then you're always going to be afraid about what may happen. And it's a real nightmare. That's why, I refuse from this!"

- Tell us about the feelings which you have experiencing at the thought that "Pirates of the Caribbean 4: The strange waves" would be without you?
"You know, I've greatly spent time working on this franchise. It took quite a significant part of my life. I was 17 when we started shooting the first film, and 21 late in the third. And I think it's more than enough. Three beautiful movies, well enough, now I set foot on another path. Cannot wait for the new series of "Pirates". I'm sure it will be fantastic. I do not regret that I am no longer a part of the project. It is time to dip into other worlds".

- Do you enjoy your work?
"Throughout my life I loved movie. I love this way of escaping from reality, I like romantic stories. And I am very fortunate that I am able to be so immersed in this world and watch the birth of modern history from the first stitch to the last. It's incredible that now I do so, as always dreamed of. But acting is a profession in which you are or a King, or a complete zero, and it are cool. Most of all in my work I like idea that everything can disappear in one second, like smoke from a cigarette".

- About the glory
"I must confess that much of my time I'm on the set. It's like a protective cover, and about such things as fame, I have no time to think!"

Harry Potter without 3D

Due to constant news about three-dimensional format film release one more new about Warner decision not to release the first part of novels "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" in 3D looks like April fool's joke. Release date is not changed, but the viewers do not have to overpay for watching movie in the glasses.
In today's press release, the studio said that they have no ready-made 3D-version of the stated date of the premiere, on November 19. "Despite all our efforts, we were unable to fully convert the movie to the highest standards of quality. We do not want to disappoint fans, so long awaited completion of this remarkable journey,"- said studio management in press release.
Director David Yates added:" This decision, which we have supported with the whole crew, focuses on the fact that for Warner has always been important quality".
Yates words sound a little bit strange in connection of the studio hastily converted "Clash of the Titans" in 3D, which was criticized by both professionals and viewers. However, it is possible that this incident prompted the studio to release "Deathly Hallows" in usual format.
The second part of the film adaptation Harry Potter will be released in theaters July 15, 2011. It's unknown, whether the studio will convert a movie in 3D.
