The film is based on the book Alex Flinn "Beastly" it is a modern interpretation of a popular French tale.
The action takes place in modern Manhattan. Narcissistic young man Kyle Kingston is rich, handsome and intelligent. But something happened that has made him not a wolf, not a bear, not a gorilla or a dog, and but with fangs, claws and fur - a real monster. Now he always walks in this guise until the girl will love him. And only then a fantastic look will back to Kyle again.
Later, the girl Kendra offers Kyle a magic mirror that shows him whomever he wishes to see. He is locked in a mansion-like apartment by his shallow, image-obsessed father. His only company is his housekeeper, Magda, and, at his request, a blind tutor named Will. Kyle changes his name to Adrian to reflect his feelings of being a completely different person from the conceited, materialistic boy he used to be and this all only after a year of being a monster. Now he is trying to find true love.
