John de Lancie biography

John de Lancie was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Kent State University where he won a scholarship to Juilliard. John's father was a professional oboist with the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra. Mr. de Lancie is probably best known for his portrayal as "Eugene Bradford" on Days of Our Lives and "Q" on TV's Star Trek: The Next Generation.

- In seven seasons, made eight appearances on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
- Was a spokesman for Compaq computers. His son, Keegan de Lancie, appears in commercials for Dell computers.
- Good friends with fellow "Star Trek" alumna Kate Mulgrew.
- Formed "Alien Voices" in 1996 with Leonard Nimoy and writer-producer Nat Segaloff. "Alien Voices" does audio remakes of classic science fiction and fantasy stories including The Time Machine, The Lost World, etc.
- Was both the first and last guest star seen on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
- Along with Marc Alaimo, Rosalind Chao, Jeffrey Combs, Jonathan Frakes and Tim Russ, he is one of only six actors to appear in ten different seasons of "Star Trek": Star Trek: The Next Generation Seasons One through Four, Six and Seven, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season One and Star Trek: Voyager Seasons Two, Three and Seven.
- Along with Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, Armin Shimerman, Michael Ansara, Richard Poe and Mark Allen Shepherd, he is one of seven actors to play the same character on three different 'Star Trek' series. He played Q in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager.
- Is good friends with MacGyver and Stargate SG-1 star Richard Dean Anderson. They have appeared in episodes of both those series and as well as Legend together.
- Was the first actor to ever use the word "trek" on "Star Trek" (in the Star Trek: The Next Generation series finale "All Good Things..."). However, James Cromwell (I) is the only actor to utter the words "star trek" in the franchise (in Star Trek: First Contact).
- (2005) In addition to his acting career, he hosts the children's series of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
- One of his first Star Trek conventions after playing the role of "Q" was with George Takei at "Starbase 21" in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA in 1987.
- The first prevision of his role as Q was when he appeared in "Little Women" (1978) {Pilot (#1.0)} with William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk in the original Star Trek series and subsequent movies.
- His Trek character "Q" was named for British fan Nancy Quarton and close friend of the late Gene Roddenberry.
- Grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the same city as Star Trek: Voyager star Robert Picardo.
