John Henry Canavan biography
John Henry Canavan is a born performer. From early childhood he was told
he had a special something and that he'd go far if he followed it.
Acting in school plays and writing his own by age 11, he knew at an
early age that he had found his passion.
He was born in Toronto, raised in Scarborough by his Irish/Scottish
parents and his four siblings. By 15 he was accepted to and studied at
the very prestigious Etobicoke School of the Arts, graduating with
honors and winning the William H Williams scholarship for actor of the
year for pulling off five major lead roles in five separate productions
in one year.
He went on to the University of Windsor where before he could complete
his first year, The Amercian Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York
came knocking to tell him he had become the first Canadian to win their
Full Scholarship Award if he'd accept it. He did and found himself
living on Broadway by 19. He traveled the USA and Canada for years
doing theater. Everything from puppetry to improv & Shakespeare to
Mamet.
His 1st break in film & television came after a successful production of
Judith Thompson's "The Crackwalker" garnered the cast a Jessie Award
Nomination in Vancouver, Canada. He found himself bouncing from one
show to the next and loving every minute of it. John continued to have
success in film and television and has since gone on to work with many
great actors and some of his favorite directors.
In 2001 he re-met and later married his acting academy sweetheart Yael
Schuster and they moved back to New York in 2002. They are now
bi-coastal having made to move to Los Angeles with their myriad of pets
including, three cats and a dog.
